Smell is odd

I love how long lasting Tom Ford fragrances are. This one starts out pretty strong but settles into a beautiful floral scent. I don’t hate the smell, but I haven’t received significant compliments and it does give me a headache after a while.

Great musky scent. It's softer and more mellow than the Black Orchid original but it still packs that familiar punch. Not for the faint of heart but really pleasing on the dry down. You need to spritz a couple of times over the evening but I find the same with most fragrances these days.

I am in the Caribbean and this smell doesn't open well with he heat. To me it smells like Chanel Allure. I don't feel strong silage but it stays for a long time on my clothe.

I had really high hopes, but on me this has a strange undertone of.... hospital? Something about the way it interacts with my chemistry gives it a weird after-smell. It is very strong, but didn't work for me! I think my friend will love it, and it probably will play a little better with her!

Really enjoyed this one. This was the first bottle I actually finished! Received a few compliments as well. Noticeable without being overpowering. Doesn't last long/all day.

Very pretty. It lasts a long time. It reminds of Black Opium, but almost like a springtime version. Almost as if Christmas took place in April. It's not too strong, could be a daily fragrance if you wanted but it's nice for fancy times too.

For some reason when I tried this in a store, it was a little different than the one I got. Maybe it needs to sit a bit. I do like it, it’s a nice powdery orchid scent that works well for daytime and evening. If you like orchid scents, this is a great choice, and it’s not headache inducing. I wish it would be a bit more velvety though.

Lightly honeyed heavy rum leads to powdery and sweet florals all on a boozy vanilla-forward oriental base. This is very much a sweeter take on Black Orchid; a gilded and sensual gourmand bombshell. Cool/cold weather, projects very loudly and is very long-lasting, leaves a noticeable trail. Compliments galore.

At first I wasn’t sure about this one, but the more I smelled it the more I loved it. Tom Ford is always hit or miss for me. My favorite perfume is Tom Ford, but also some of my least favorites are Tom Ford. This one is not an everyday wear, but instead great for a special night out. For me this is a winter or cooler spring scent.

I love this scent. I wish it stayed on longer. It stays on longer than most scents. For a deep smell; I would have thought it was more eternal. Other than that, it is not for everyone. I love it and it makes me feel beautiful and sexy. My husband likes it on me. I can see how it could be too mature for some as it's a bit powdery or soapy at times. I am considering buying the large bottle because I really do love the way it makes me feel. Sexy and badass! I think depending on your job, you could possibly wear it at work. I liked wearing it in the evening and just because. I usually reapplied it once or twice a day so I can smell it all day long.

Absolutely love this rich deep velvety scent. This is my third perfume from Tom Ford and it continue to wow me. It is pretty strong and long wearing perfume. I feel people that are into perfumes will really appreciate. Not necessarily the best choice for those individuals who have couple perfumes and looking for every day easy scent.

I really love this fragrance. It's very rich and heady. When you first spray it on It's a little bit cloying but as it dries the fragrance then comes into It's own. It lasts quite awhile and if you reapply it in a few hours it perks back up and you feel you're in a beautiful flower garden.

At first spray it's very strong but has a quick, sweet, and slightly powdery dry down. This fragrance reminds me of an incense that hasn't yet been burned. This scent isn't for everyone but I really like it. I gave 4 stars because it doesn't last very long. Velvet Orchid fades far too fast for a premium Tom Ford fragrance.

When I tried it the first time I was sure I wasn't going to like it. But the longer I wore it the more I liked it. It is very subtle and a little dark.

Velvet Orchid is a sweeter and smoother version of Black Orchid to me. The perfume notes are well blended and the Sillage with three sprays leaves a lingering but pleasant scent in the room. I’m about 8hrs it started to turn to a skin scent but on my clothes still strong.

When I first smelled velvet orchid I preferred it over back orchid, which is why I chose it for this month. After spraying, it smelled too much of baby wipes even after drying down it still faintly smelled. Not for me personally

I agree with many of the others saying the fragrance is more suited for an older woman. However, after it dries down it is soooo lovely and I feel so decadent wearing it. Longevity is amazing, as with other TF fragrances. This one lasts a long time!

I like it but I don’t love it. It definitely has that old school White Diamonds/Chanel 5 kind of vibe, but modernized. I enjoy wearing it from time to time but I wouldn’t buy the full size.

When I first sprayed this, my immediate thought is it smelled like my Nana. Which is comforting but I really need to be missing her to bust out her perfumes and wear one (looking at you Youth Dew). But it was on so we pushed through. Once it dried down, it was subtle and sexy and I actually really liked it. I will totally rock this in winter but not spring or summer. This is my first Tom Ford try.

I wanted to love this scent! I'm very underwhelmed by it. It is a nice scent. Starts out kind of strong and mature. The drydown is soft and pretty but very subtle. I much prefer Bitter Peach. Lost Cherry, Soliel Neige and Soliel Blanc. Hoping that you will start to offer these scents!

I wanted to try something different from my usual florals. the scent doesn't last the entire day which is what I'm looking for. Last maybe a couple hours then fades.

As eclectic as I am, this leans a bit too masculine for me...as do most of TF fragrances. As are most niche frgarances, this is a complex mix if notes. Fresh Orchid quite evident throughout the entire dry down journey. It is best worn in cooler weather as I feel humidity or heat might make this too heavy for general wear. I will likely gift to my brother who loves TF!

First it comes on strong then dries down to a mix of sweet, oriental, powder in a good way... what I noticed MEN complimented me, my husband loves it. It's less pungent than the Black Orchid but still has that Tom Ford Orchid DNA. I definitely prefer this version. This scent is for a lady who doesn't mess around, she knows who she is and has power. It's a great fragrance to have in your arsenal for a special occasion that requires this type of presence.

I don't think I can trust reviews anymore. I wanted to love this, and I was so excited to get it! But this just ain't it! I am 35 years old, and it smells WAY too old for me. It smells like one of those cheap bottles of fragrance you buy at Walmart to put in a gift box for the nursing home or something?? I feel like they put the wrong thing in my bottle! Am I being tricked?

Yuck! Smells rancid and offensive. I don't understand the hype and am convinced with this scent its just a cases of "the emperor's new clothes." This doesn't smell refined, expensive, or flattering. I prefer premium fragrances but this one just doesn't make the cut.

This was a beautiful fragrance and my very first with my subscription. It’s a very sexy and warm evening fragrance though, with fall, I have warn it a few times during the day. It gives me great memories connected to it already so that might be why as well.

I don’t like this very much it’s a floral but more aged fragrance, and I’m 25. I’m looking for something on the sweeter side and staying sweet, this does not meet that. At first the smell isn’t something I personally like and after a while the smell is more settled which I did like, but it’s not that strong and doesn’t last as long as I would like.

This is so beautiful and luxurious. True to the name and scent description, you can smell the orchids and beautiful feminine musk that almost smells creamy. (I don’t know how, but it does). But it is 1000% not for the faint of heart. I am a chronic over-sprayer I like my scent to arrive before I do. This will do that, but you cannot overspray or you may pass out honestly.

I have really fallen in love with Tom Ford the very first one I tried was black Orchid and the first time I sprayed it I hated it but as it settled I found that it really started smelling very good and so a couple days later I tried it again and I really liked it and it just really had became my favorite perfume it’s so different then any other perfume I have ever smelled it’s sweet with a spice that really mixes well with my chemistry and the velvet orchid did not disappoint either can’t wait to try my next Tom Ford perfume

Velvet Orchid by Tom Ford is a sexy fragrance that seduces your significant other (wink, wink). Five stars all the way... I've worn it for a night out with my man and he was all over me, commenting on how "... great you smell babe..." giggle...

After the initial dry down, this just smells like baby powder on me. That was fine when I was a teenager, but now it makes me feel like an old lady.

I’m gonna give it 3 stars bc it does perform but this is a No No & No for me. Def the type of perfume u want to spray somewhere else before u spray on urself bc it’s very strong & it’s the type u may have to take a couple showers before the scent is gone. It’s old lady-ish to me, and way too strong it makes my eyes itch. Needless to say this went back & I was very excited to smell this but I’m gonna stay away from Tom Ford bc every scent I’ve tried by that designer is way too much for me. I transition between Velvet Orchid and Ombre Leather by TF. Velvet Orchid doesn't do very well in humid weather so I would prefer to wear it on nights or chilly days. I live in my leather jacket so Velvet Orchid is a perfect fragrance for my style. It is a stronger scent than other feminine fragrances, but it does stand out of the crowd without offend people. Excellent statement piece.

I love it. It's very strong woodsy like I like with a touch of feminine floral and light sweetness on me and I absolutely adore it. And it lasts 4+ hours when I'm bathing and drying dogs and giving them haircuts at work... That's good in my books. I'll have to try it when I'm off work to see how long it lasts normally

Never worn a scent with rum and honey top notes, but it seems to work well. It's not for the meek or mild though. You gotta be comfortable with smelling unique, rich, classy and Boss B. Great for day or evening.

Smells ok but is extremely strong.

I hate to be the one to say it but it smells like old lady perfume. The best way to put it is it’s very strong, almost over powering and never goes away.

A lighter version of Black Orchid. It's nice, not as overpowering, but has similar notes to Black Orchid. It has a nice, sweet honey/vanilla drydown that I really like. It doesn't draw me to it as much as Black Orchid, but it may be more appealing to a wider audience. If you don't like it at first, let it mellow.

This is an amazing scent. I LOVE it! There aren’t many fragrances that I don’t like due to the fact that I read the descriptions and know what I like in my Parfum.

It was initially strong (musky and powdery at the same time) and I think overall a bit heavy for me. I gave it to my daughter and she loved it.

Initially, I didn't like this scent but after it dried down a bit I fell in love with it! I love how unique it is and that it lasts all day and then some...I sprayed my jacket yesterday morning and I can still smell this perfume on it!

I was super excited about this fragrance due to the scent profile. However, when I got it, it was like a floral punch to the mouth and much sneezing ensued. THOUGH, I am in love with the dry down of this perfume. Once the orchid notes settle down, it's a beautiful fragrance. I wear it, just not as frequently as I would like due to that. I love the way it smells the day after though, very long lasting.

I love it. I was a little concerned about how long the fragrance lasted though. I sprayed a little on my arm and in a couple of hours I couldn’t smell it. I did receive a compliment from a young lady. She said I smelled amazing.

Wasn't as awesome as the hype

This is such a beautiful fragrance. I have heard that this is the mellowed & more feminine version of Tom Ford's Black Orchid. I have not tried the Black Orchid yet so I can not compare the two, however it is next on my Calender. I think based on web reviews Velvet Orchid is the universally Liked and Safe version of the Black Orchid. Where as the Black Orchid is either Love it or Hate it. It's the perfume equivalent of slipping into satin pajamas on a cozy fall evening. Soft, sexy, and beautiful but not over the top. Just gentle silkyness caressing your skin. I love it so much, I am contemplating buying a full sized bottle. I want to compare it to the other Tom Ford Fragrances which are next on my list first though.

I would give it 3.5 if I could. It has really nice oriental notes, but as it settles, it smells a little old lady-ish.

My first scent from scent box and I must say....I would never buy this perfume had i smelled it at a retail place however, I used it yesterday and I am pleSCENTly lol surprised because I LOVE IT!! Very smooth and sexy with a long lasting wear....

Initial spray was strong and I didn't like it, but as the fragrance dried down I began to like it more and more. After about an hour, it dried down to a beautiful sexy scent. Very unique and different, so if you're not into orientals then this one may not be for you.

Long lasting...a little goes a long way! Very sexy!!

This is a very interesting scent. I'm not one to gravitate towards oriental type scents, but there there is a beautiful mix of floral that adds drama and sensuality. It's difficult to put my finger on it and yet I find I'm quite enjoying this perfume.
