Not for me at all, reminds me of the smell of talcum powder. Not something I would choose to wear. In the description it says ‘fruity notes’ I can’t smell any fruity notes, only the scent of powder. I can see why people would like it, it’d be a very fresh scent if your into that style of perfume.

Love this Estee Lauder perfume, light and airy

I was excited about this scent as I have like other Estee Lauder scents. This one was not for me. It is strong and I was immediately inspired to take a shower. Overly sweet, in my opinion and the dry down doesn't mellow it.

This is a very classic strong jasmine fragrance. It's a lovely and timeless and somewhat old fashioned in a good way. If you like the older classic perfumes, it's a great one. If you're looking for something more youthful and modern then this isn't it. It does last a very long time and has great sillage.

I loved this perfume since I can remember. I used to run into my moms room and grab a sneak spray of it when I was in high school! It seemed to smell differently now though. Very stong even with 1 light spray. Have they changed the formula? It finally smelled good after wearing it for 4-5 hours, maybe I could spray it on normally and then take a shower and it would smell like the old Beautiful! ??

A old fave that i forgot how much i loved until i got it. Always get a lot of compliments when wearing and dont have to respritz but maybe once in afternoon after wearing all day. LOVE this fragrance!

This is NOT the same as it used to be. The overall scent was there-kind of-but it didn't linger with a soft smell like it did several years ago when I first purchased it. It left a smell that was reminiscent of my grandmother's 30+year old, 1/2 empty, cheap bottles of mall kiosk disappointment. Such a bummer. It has nothing to do with being in a different bottle either (or ScentBox for that matter). I went to a department store and the same disappointment awaited me there. So, if you're expecting what you got 20 years ago, don't set your standards too high.

The Beautiful perfume product bought for me for Christmas in 2012 is inferior to any that I have worn in all the many years that I have been using it. Something has been changed in the formula and the scent no longer lingers. Big disappointment. What is missing?

Thank goodness I didn't buy this but received it as a present. I would be mad if I spent good money on Beautiful. It reminds me of a summer version of Red Door, passable, cheap, but that's it. It's boring. Most of the time I would prefer to wear no perfume at all than to wear this. You could wear it anywhere, but it's so mediocre.

I snatched this from my mother, and it became my favorite fragrance as a teenager in the 1990s. I was looking forward to the revisit, although I had the feeling it wouldn't be the same. And it wasn't - it's basically a classic, strong fragrance, but I find it old-fashioned, if not outdated. But fun to revisit and realise taste has changed a lot over the years.

I was a bit disappointed at the time it took to arrive - over 1 month because I didn't realise it was coming from US and I also had to pay an overseas transaction fee, which I didn't know about that either. I've just read Lola's comments and in a way,I can understand why she feels the way she does. I,too,have encountered similar circumstances,in business school many years ago.There was a particular teacher with a diva attitude who wore beautiful as if she soaked her clothes in it. The scent was suffocating even in an air-conditioned classroom and we had to endure it until her time was up. You can't even open the door for fresh air because it's a problem for her! Students complained of nausea,headache asthma,you name it and not one person had the guts to speak up about it. So for my health's sake,I got out of there and every time I attend a funeral or wedding & someone's wearing that god awful scent I simply move away from that person or avoid being in crowds. Lola,I'm sorry that you had a bad experience with your co-worker but you should not let that stop you from trying other scents whether or not you choose to. It's your call,but remember,it's just perfume.

I met a lovely brunett at a Waikiki outdoor bar on the beach 18 yrs. ago. She splashed some Beautiful on a cocktail napkin for me, and I still carry it in my wallet today-still fresh.

This is the most sensual perfume of them all. I have old young and middle aged men tell me I smell wonderful. Only Beautiful can get those remarks.

It took time for me to appreciate the beauty and timelessness of Esete Lauder's fragrances- even if I didn't like them all. I remember when I was a housekeeper in a hotel and a guest had thrown a full bottle of this away. I took it home sniffed it was disgusted and proceeded to chuck it. I was young (20)and uneducated in the and art/enjoyment of perfumery-I felt the same way about Shalimar. Beatiful is indded floral in every sense of the word- lots of tuberose and rose. All that is needed and a small application to last all day- it projects very nicely. I would love to smell this in powder version! It's not an everyday fragrance for me- I wear it maybe a couple oftimes a year. I agree with others that Estee has tweaked their fragrances- and not for the better- shame on them!

Right now I'm wearing Beautiful perfume, and I think that it is somewhat blah-smelling. There isn't anything wrong with it, but it is nothing special. I got it for Christmas last year. I'm looking forward to getting a different fragrance for Christmas this year, and I hope that I'll be happier with it.

I agree with many posts regarding "changes" in Estee Perfume. I don't see a reason for Cinnabar, yet it is still available??? Estee perfume users enjoy many old classics, but some are not for the better AT ALL. Consumers are intelligent and when a really GOOD item is discontinued, why are they not returning that to the counters? Some of the "new" scents are not of higher caliber at all.

I recently purchased a new bottle of beautiful after running out. It is not what it used to be. the original bottle and the current one don't even come close to being the same. While the current scent is not "awful", it is certainly not what I've come to expect from estee Lauder. I won't buy again!

I've been wearing Beautiful for two weeks now after a very long hiatus from this fragrance. Wow! I got compliments galore. That never happened before for me with Beautiful. Now I'm hooked.

Beautful it is. While non-American women may find the bulk of American perfumes a touch too strident, with Beautiful, Lauder almost (repeat almost!) errs on the side of comparative understatement. It doesn´t plumb the complex depths of subtlety like the great classic floral perfumes, but is typically American in approach, all scrubbed-clean and wholesomely pert. With Bernard Chant and Max Gavarry contributing to its creation, this rich tobacco-tinged rose from 1985 has a classic profile. In the somewhat reformulated new version you can smell, underneath the very eighties intense sweetness (YSL Paris uses a similar powdery, liqueur-like rose), a mossy chypre base of more depth and complexity than usual, pairing sweet amber with an intensely vegetal green. But it also has a very modern feel, with a bright, herbal, woody radiance that broadcasts an attractive low hum all around. This said, it smells unfortunately dated, the way many things from the eighties smell dated now; heavier and less legible than current fragrances, but with up-to-the-moment synthetics preventing it from smelling older. Someday it may smell fresh again.

If you like the signature fragrance called Estee that was released in 1968, it has been drastically "reformulated" to meet "so-called" world-wide standards. It is hardly recognizable anymore. I truly wish every Estee fan would write the online Estee Lauder site and beg them to bring back the original that was released in 1968. I have written them and they respond quickly and state my comments are forwarded to their marketing dept. Beware...your favorite Lauder fragrance may be reformulated. Some posts state the older ones have been changed.

Yes, they are changing their fragrances. The latest one to change is Estee. I wrote them and they confirmed that it was "rebalanced". I just returned my bottle after buying this scent for over 17 years. Please write Estee Lauder via their web site if you are an unhappy about the changes as I am.

ive grown up to this scent! my grandma uses this, my aunt and my mom. when i was a teenager, i used to hate the smell of this. but when i had my own family, i learned to love the scent. very strong the first time you sprayed it but afterwards, it leaves a soft powdery smell. my 3 year old daughter doesnt want to use her cologne anymore. instead, she goes to my mom's room and sprayed this to her clothes. i know its tooo strong for children but she loves it and we also love it on her.

Beautiful describes this fragrance perfectly. Everyone I have ever detected this scent on smells absolutely lovely. In fact, a co-worker wore it to work one day and there was such a lovely aroma all around her office. I asked her what she was wearing and she said Beautiful... WOW... my boss also asked her what scent she had on and when she said Beautiful my boss told her that her teenage daughter wears Beautiful also and loves it. I can't wait to start wearing Beautiful myself!

I purchased this for my mom when it was first introduced and she still loves it. This is a classic floral with a slight honey and green note. I can't wear it because my chemisty turns it too sharp. I recommend this for older women who are perky and femme.

"oh, what are you wearing?" could be delight, or also could be thinking "so I'll know never to wear that!" but too polite to say that! I didn't find this beautiful, pretty, or even nice. I like strong & dynamic scents too, but this one seems clumsy, falls flat & knocks you over.

I have worn Beautiful since I was a senior in high school in 1987. It is one of the only scents that really smells good only me with my body chemistry and I ALWAYS get compliments on it from both sexes. My friends tell me its my signature scent.

There's something in all Estee Lauder perfumes that I just can't handle. I don't know what the similar ingredient is in them that makes them all smell like Estee Lauder perfumes, but it literally makes me sick to my stomach. They are too strong and overpowering and dated.

I moved to USA 5 years ago,never worn any purfume before.I asked my husband to give me an advice about buying purfume.He told me beautiful was one of the most popular and smell very nice. I bought a set included shower gel,lotion and purfume.At first time used.I thought this was too sharp and kind of an old scent.I got suprised when I went to work and got many stop by men and asked me what I kind of purfume I was wearing.I worn this through out the year,they came by in the morning and gave me complement.My girlfriends love this too,and she has this as her all time favorite.Now I only wear this for evening time.I prefer modern, soft floral scent for my daytime wear.

A big correction is to be had here, what I thought was Beautiful really turns out to be the Beautiful Sheer. My girl didn't think it was necessary to add the 'sheer' part when I asked her what she was wearing and I was under the impression it was Beautiful all these times. I should have known though as I've wondered it being a bit modern for a 1985 release. She said the original wears too heavy on her and only her older relatives wear it. Okay, that's that then. I don't know what the original really smells like but I love Beautiful Sheer on my girl, perfect for some romance.

Victoria is absolutely right in saying that the body lotion alone is good enough to make an impression with this beautiful fragrance. It will stick closer to the skin that way but this subtlely makes for a soft romantic aura for whoever's wearing this perfume. It's not always good that you leave scent trails around behind your path. My girl was wearing the body lotion alone yesterday and I couldn't help myself getting closer to her. I wouldn't say this is exactly an obsolete oldsy perfume, but a timeless classic for those who use this in moderation and have the body chemistry to go with it. This is undoubtedly a beauty! And to Rob - This can no way be a uni-sex fella, too feminine for a guy to even think about wearing. Wears beautifully on girls alone.

I can't stand the perfume, too strong. But I absolutely LOVE the body lotion (or creme) and can't live without it. I get asked all the time what I'm wearing. Yes it's expensive but it's worth every penny.

This was recommended to me as a possible signature fragrance. I tried this at the perfume counter, and was immediately hit with a wave of rose and alcohol. Then it worked its way into my leather gloves, and into my car. It was days before I could get rid of it.

This fragrance used to be just wonderful, but Estee Lauder has changed it, just like they did with White Linen. Why on earth do companies DO this?? Why don't they just make a new scent instead of tampering with the old one? The new one is invariably not as good. New Beautiful is not so beautiful. :-(

I wear this one w/ the body lotion or body cream and I get compliments all the time. It has lasting power and works with my chemistry. I have been wearing since the early 90s. Beautiful in the warmer months and Samsara in the fall. Coco in the winter! E.L. makes great body products to go with this frag.

I work at a perfume store. Beautiful is still one of the top sellers out on the market today and probably always will be. I don't care for the smell myself at all. I've known too many women who wear it. Truthfully it reminds me of old ladies and 99% of women who do buy this fragrance are well into their sixties. What gets me though. The scent isn't all that great at all. I think its the name....

it was 88 and i was just 17 ... young , dreamy , romantic ... and wanted so a signature scent ...and beautiful it was !!! back then , i chose my fragrances by their names , bottles ...and must admit that whenever i wore it , i felt absolutely BEAUTIFUL! today , 17 yrs later ... i don't wear it as often ... but at times i do ...and it takes me there , to my "beautiful" days !

Hello there! I so enjoy reading your postings because they are always filled with such detailed and informative descriptions. Its nice how a scent can allow you to reminisce over good people and good times (altho scents can sadly have the opposit effect as well.) While i do own a bottle of Beautiful, its one i rarely put on as it reminds me of the person who gave it to me - a relationship that never should have began. Glad it works for you though! :)

Beautiful will always remind me of my grandma. I bought a bottle of this oh about 9-10 years ago and while visiting my grandmother in Europe she fell in love with the wonderful BEAUTIFUL smell... Of course I gave her the bottle right away and during my 8 week visit with her this was all she wore... My grandma much like myself was a great lover of wonderful fragrances and for her to have fallen in love with Beautiful will always leave a very special place in my heart for that gorgeous fragrance. I have not worn Beautiful since that summer, but nevertheless I will always keep a bottle in memory of a very beautiful woman, who taught me the joy and pride in being a woman... Now from time to time I open my bottle and spray in the air and I remember the way my grandmother smiled while wearing Beautiful... The real beauty truely comes from within...

I tried a sample and it was nice but when I got it, it didn't smell the same. People at work told me I would stink the office up, so I got rid of it!!

I always get so many compliments with Beautiful , more so than any other perfume, so i have made it my signature scent.... This one guy that i work with went out and bought his wife some but says it does not smell the way it does on me.... so he is not happy about that, but i do believe that it has to do with a persons body chemistry.

Beautiful gorgeous bouquets of flowers. That is what it reminds me of. I don't think this one will ever leave. It is just a wonderful perfume, with an incredibly unique scent. Not to mention, that Beautiful wearers are extremely loyal and tend to stay with it because they cannot find another perfume that will compare. Some people may think it should have been left behind in the 80's but I disagree. Why let go of something that is so good?

I like to smell this one on other people. It is a "pretty", elegant scent. It is a bit strong for me to wear though.

I can't believe someone else feel the same way as I do about Beautiful, I also have a friend that wears it and I can't stand to smell, by the way, I am an older woman and can't stand the smell, in fact, I gave it to my child daughter to play with, when she and her friends play dress up AWAY from my house.

try the bath and shower gel. It is great. In the summer, I use the bath and shower gel plus the body lotion. It holds up really well.

Beautiful was one of the first perfumes I ever bought. I discovered it from a waitress that had been wearing it. It initially smells strong but it dries down to a very elegant and sexy scent.

I am an advid wearer of Beautiful, and I've worn it since 1986, and I wouldn't wear anything else. But I've since tried some others, and, thye were okay but, they just didn't seem to stand up to my gurl Estee, so I went back here recently and was severely disappointed. The scent has been tampered with, and not for the better either. I am sad to report that I've been forced to find something to even remotely measure up to what Beautiful use to be.

I'm glad I'm not nuts...I wore Beautiful when it first came out, and it was the ONLY perfume I wore for several years (I was in my 20's). I was constantly complimented on my scent. After playing with different scents for a couple of years, I tried to go back to Beautiful in the early 90's and I absolutely could not wear it--it was awful. Since I was pregnant at the time, I attributed the change to hormone fluctuations. However, I have tried it again a couple of times since and it still smells gross--definitely not the wonderful scent I once wore.

I am deeply offended that EL considers their faithful customers as idiots! Did you not think we would notice you cheapened the scent of Beautiful? This was my signature parfume since "88", no longer!!! SO DISAPPOINTED....

I used to wear this fragrance when it first came out and absolutely loved it. I have a friend who still wears it and whenever I'm around her and smell it I just can't stand it and I wish she'd stop wearing it, but I don't have the heart to tell her! It smells like something an old lady would wear. It is very strong and just darn stinky!! I think this scent has definitely worn out it's welcome and needs to be retired. I think it's just an old scent and that there are many other new scents out now that are more updated.

Yes, every fragrance smells a little different on every woman. Some work, some don't. You have to try it for yourself to find out. Of all the fragrances I've tried, nothing has drawn more positive comments from men than Beautiful. I'm sticking with it!

the top notes smell exactly like oscar de la renta to me...which is too sophisticated and unoriginal a fragrance for my taste. i DON'T like it the top notes. but the dry-down scent is lovely...sweet and feminine and still elegant. i wear this SPARINGLY because it is so strong...and only occasionally, when the atmosphere is formal and mature. i guess i still like the bold, youthful, energetic fragrances...i don't use Beautiful very often but i do like it, once the top notes fade and the fragrance settles.

I have worn Beautiful since the late 80s and for many years (10+) wore it exclusively. Lately, though, I've discovered so many wonderful women's fragrances, that I feel like I'm at a buffet and don't want to limit my fragrance selection to just one scent. A lovely perfume I discovered last year is Ferre 20. If you like Beautiful, you might also enjoy Ferre 20 (by Gianfranco Ferre). It doesn't smell like Beautiful, but it does have floral notes and some nice oriental undertones. Very versatile, warm scent. And if you don't like Beautiful, you still might like Ferre 20. Minis of 20 are pretty easy to find. A small investment for a great fragrance.! I hope you'll try it.

This is one of my all time favorite floral scents. I put it into a catagory along with Chanel No. 5. It does change with a persons chemistry and at times it has seemed too strong on me. I apply the EDP lightly and use it along with the body lotion and sometimes the perfume. Actually, the true perfume smells the best on me. I alternate wearing Beautiful with the newer perfumes in my collection.

Yes, this one makes a strong statement. For me, it's not for everyday use. I wear it occassionally for evenings out (as it isn't my favorite - Boucheron, Oscar de Renta & GUCCI No. 3 are my top 3), but everytime I am wearing Beautiful, men always ask me what perfume I'm wearing as they love the scent.

I got this for Christmas and just like some people here, very strong a scent. So strong that it makes me high and the only word I can think of describing it is "intoxicating." lol It smells nice for just a short time but for a longer time, I just wanna get rid of it. It's true that it doesn't work for everyone and that the "chemicals doesn't mix well with your body" but maybe I'll see how it turns out if I wear it for a couple of months. I guess if you wear it too much, it might be a bother.

Beautiful perfume is one of my favorite floral scents...it may come off as strong when you first spray it, but the secret is to spray it on your wrist and neck, and soon the strong scent goes away.

Bought my first Beautiful in the 80's because my husband asked me to. He used to swoon at a lady in our elevator. After, he swooned at me --men follow me with silly grins on their faces and ask what it is so they can buy it for their wives, mothers or girlfriends...ooh la la!

I find Beautiful quite a strong perfume. However I do get comments when wearing it "What is that 'BEAUTIFUL' perfume you are wearing. Its quite funny - because I say it's Beautiful by Estee Lauder.

This scent is awesome and it lasts. E.L. scents hold up and that is why I like them. Try the fragrance silk - it is awesome and has shimmer.

Been wearing beautiful since the late '80's when I first received a sample. Honestly, I'm not crazy about most Estee Lauder fragrances but this one smelled very nice to me and I've been using it for years. Some of the ladies who have posted here have given high marks to the Beautiful scented body creme. They're right. It's wonderful and I recommend that if you use Beautiful then be sure to layer the EDP with the creme or lotion. The creme is wonderful even by itself. I think there's a post on here that likens the scent of Beautiful to urine. Some of you ladies really crack me up. We're all so different when it comes to our tastes, and some of y'all express yourselves with such fervor and humor I have to laugh. I sincerely wish everyone who might read this post a grand day whether you're a fan of Beautiful or not.

I personally love this scent, I get a lot of compliments when I wear it. I'm 24 and I don't think it smells too "old" like other people say. I would definately recommend this.

My father-in-law bought me this as a gift. I have never had so many compliments to a scent. My husband loves it. And my 24 year old daughter loves it. Good for young and old alike.

It is odd how a decade ago I did not like how this one smelled on me when I received it as a gift. I used it anyhow, and couldn't wait to finish the bottle. Fast forward to last week, and I smell it on someone that it suited very well. I immediately recognized it and so I decided to try it at the dept. store, as well as a few others. It's funny because I was eyeing another fragrance, however Beautiful seemed to smell the best on me compared to the other three I had tried on. Does skin chemistry change after time? I tried Beautiful summer in bloom (summer body spray). It is what I wanted from Beautiful. The result is very light and airy. It is much much better than the heavy original Beautiful. Very elegant and gentle. Another good thing is it does not mix with sweat, it is very summer friendly. All the positive comments go to Beautiful summer in bloom. It is a pity it's a limited edition.

I used it for a while but not any more. It is too strong and bitter me. The smell is like some strange desert grass. I liked it on a tester better than on a person. I took a tester and bought it right away, but when I wore it, I felt it is too heavy. Other people who wear it have the same heavy smell which I could not like. So, don't just try it on a tester, spray it on your skin to see the real smell.

I wore beautiful on my wedding day back in '88---and I smelled beautiful! The recipe has changed as I recently purchased a big bottle and am completely repulsed! This scent is definately for the over 70's crowd! I think it smells strong and skunky! I too, thought it was my chemistry until I found this website. I keep smelling the spot where I sprayed it and my only thought is..... I really need to take some tylenol. It totally gives me a headache now. Sorry Estee Lauder-you've lost another customer! this should be THE perfume of all perfumes and not no.5 by chanel. although i don't wear it myself (tried on me - didn't work, maybe because i was 22 at the time) but the most fabulouse ladies that i have ever known wore it and they were working serious glamour!!!! i think everybody who's interested in perfumery should try beautiful at least once !

Men love this and comment on it while most women are asking you not to wear it. Heavy scent, easy to apply too much, hard to have right under your own nose, but men will follow you around in a store asking what you are wearing.

I have been useing this for year's,If you use the lotion ,like they say layer,it work's great,i get allot of complements on this,but every parfume or cologne does not smell the same on everyone,the girls on here that cut it up,it does not mixwell with their chemicals in their body,YOU GOT TO FIND WHAT'S RIGHT FOR YOU!

Ladies, The beautiful smell is only in the Sheer Mist of the Beautiful line, not the actual perfume. The perfume smells like pee, to be quite honest, but the sheer mist is absolutely perfect!! It's amazing that they are both in the Estee Lauder Beautiful line. Anyhoo, just a tip to the wise :-)

I wanted to like this..alot of the women in my family love this and wear it. I dont find it bad on them. But for me its too much. I really like the new Beautiful Sheer. Its nothing like this one really..but nice in its own way. I think this is one that is not for everyone.

Try as I might, for some reason, I cannot appreciate scents like 'Beautiful' that include either 'carnation' or 'melon' in their bouquets. I like the ideals of 'freshness', 'florals', and 'fruitiness' that many of these contemporary scents try to embody. However, all the 'melon' scents, especially, cause me much discomfort. I realize I'm in the minority with this opinion, because obviously, many ladies LOVE 'Beautiful', lol!

This just doesn't work with my body chemistry. Maybe it smells nice on others, but on me it just smells like industrial soap--strong and chemical-ish.

As it is the case with everybody having a different chemestry, perfume is also affected by the weather and geographical location, lighter notes will dissipate faster on cooler, higher altitude places, the further up from sea level, the less likely the top and middle notes will linger, leaving you only with the denser base notes. Maybe the "difference" you've been noticing has to do with two or more factors, not necessarily a recipy change. I have a bottle of Beautiful and it smells just as unique and sophisticated as it did 3 yers ago when I first got it.

The perfume recipe is no different, want to know why it smells strong? The Sheer spray is what people generally wear, not the perfume. I have used the sheer spray for a long time, then I went to purchase the perfume when I was running out...thinking "it smells so different!" Then I realized it was the sheer spray that I used. People at the department stores carrying Beautiful will tell you that Beautiful sheer is preferred and is popular, not the perfume!

There are two versions of Beautiful; The first is the original with the same scent that I have been wearing for 18 years, the second is Beautiful Sheer and I don't think it smells very good at all. Make sure you take notice of both versions.

I'll go on record as the umpteenth person to say that Beautiful is different. I had a teacher probably 15 years ago who wore it and I liked it a lot, but my grandma bought a bottle recently and it is NOT the same!!! So disappointed. It's still nice in my opinion, but definitely different. What's UP with perfumersj CHANGING THE RECIPE????? Doesn't that defeat the whole purpose of NAMING a perfume and marketing it for years and years? Duh, Estee Lauder.

I have always loved Estee Lauder Perfumes -mainly because they are not easily attainable - that is they are not always available at just your local Drug or Department stores! I have been a great fan of both Beautiful and Knowing- as well as the older scent of Cinnibar for many years- and honestly of all the well known perfumes that I have experienced in my lifetime- it is these that I have had the most compilments on! I find that Beautiful is my all time favourite- and to me the formula has not changed at all- but for those who feel that it has- it is most likely your own body chemistry that has changed! I have often both loved and admired a particular scent on a person- only to try it on myself- experiencing completely different results when it concerned me! I now realize- after all of these years- that it is not the scent that is so special -but it is how you as an individual- wear that particular scent! I love Beautiful for me- as does my husband- but for someone else this may not be the one! I would love to hear from others- on this observation- concerning a scent!

I thought it was just me. I was ready to send the bottle back. However, I purchased at the same time the Beautiful body creme and it is just superb! I use the cream with the body powder and get compliments left and right and everyone is always asking me what I have on. I am definately addicted to this smell.

This perfume is pretty, but I noticed something very interesting-there are a lot of people who wear this.My girlfriend, now her mother-in-law, my boss, etc. I thought wow this is really popular. But I think it's popular because it is very wearable, like Pleasures and Happy, making all three the top 3 perfumes sold in the US. The only problem I have with Beautful and the others is that there is no character, no depth, nothing really to say, except being pretty florals. That is a good thing, but personally I want more from my perfume.

I have read quite a few of you peoples messages and I disagree with those of you who feel that there is something different about this perfume I too have been wearing beautiful for the past 15 years and the scent has not changed. Its your body chemistry that changes as you age it smells the same in the bottle but to me it smells even better on me than it did as a teenager I am now 32 years old and I can't get enough of this fragrance I get so many compliments on this fragrance. Don't necessary knock a fragrance down because over a coarse of time you think it smells different on you than it did before it may not necessary mean that they changed something in the fragrance it just could simply mean that your body chemistry may not react to it the same as it did before. But to all of you beautiful lovers out there keep buying and wearing it because I defitnly will I will never get tired of this fragrance.

I was at the Estee counter today, and they just came out with the edp in the sheer, I like it a lot. I agree with you, that the original Beautiful was nice but dated. So if you haven't had any luck recently, hold on, I'm sure you'll be getting it soon at your store, and there is always on-line ordering Good Luck!

Just to add to my previous message. I was at the Estee Lauder counter this morning and inquired about the eau de parfum version of Beautiful Sheer. To my disappointment, the counter girl said that she knew nothing of it. Knowing that I'm a fan of Beautiful Sheer, she then gave me a sample of the original Beautiful and gave me tips on how to use the fragrance. She said that if I find the original Beautiful too strong, I can spray Beautiful Sheer after it, that will lighten the smell of the original Beautiful and set it to smell really lovely. When I came home, I tried that and hmm, the combined smell is really quite nice.However, I still hope that Estee would come up with a more lasting version of Beautiful Sheer :)

I was hoping that Estee would be smart enough to come up with an eau de parfum for Beautiful Sheer, the body mist is lovely, much nicer than the original Beautiful which smells too dated and strong. I thought I was just imagining the cologne scent had changed, then I read all the comments on here. But, the lotion is still the original scent. I wear the lotion alot in the summer on hot days with skimpy outfits. And ladies, let me tell you, I've received tons of compliments from men and women alike! Yes, indeed, the LOTION still ROCKS!!

I don't like the perfume as much as the body lotion. I wear it alone. it is more fruity. The perfume to me is a real dry scent.

Try layering the sheer mist with the sheer body lotion and shower gel it really helps it linger. It is so soft and flirty !!!

Ever saw the advertisement for Beautiful? Notice the women is wearing a wedding gown. This scent wasn't designed for everyday wear. If you are wearing something regal you can wear "Beautiful". Trust me on this. I've tried it.

Hi Lisa, instead of Beautiful, how about Mackie? They are similar fragrances but Mackie smells better than Beautiful. Mackie doesn't have the stale undernotes that Beautiful has.

Beautiful is no longer the same scent that I remember from my youth. The scent is too strong when applied initially. It almost smells acetone-like similar to nailpolish remover. The die down part of the fragrance is stale smelling like someone who doesn't shower every morning and has unwashed hair. Icky. I am very disappointed. However, the Beautiful lotion smells more like the old Beautiful fragrance--its more tolerable than the perfume. I wish Estee Lauder would leave a good thing alone! Maybe a representative from EL will read this and pass our comments on to Aerin Lauder!

I stopped by the EL counter on a recent Macy's visit for a little whiff of Beautiful since it had been about 10 yrs or so since I had worn it. I gave a startled little cry and kind of jumped back and told the sales clerk that they must have an old sample bottle and to please put out a new one. She was offended and neither agreed or disagreed about the bottle "going bad". Why would EL purposely change this lovely scent. It ought to be illegal to change a receipe and retain the same name. In this particular case, EL should change the name from "Beautiful" to "Ugly".

I used to wear Beautiful when I was younger, I would borrow my friend's and I do think it smells different now. I finally bought my own bottle this year and it is way more sharp than I remember and seems like a few notes are missing from the fragrance. But when the fragrance dries down it still smells nice, just not quite as nice as before. Anyone know what could be done about reversing the scent change? Cause if this many of us notice it, it can't be just imagination.. maybe someone should get a petition or something going to Estee Lauder Co.?

Ten years ago my husband followed a woman through Copenhagen Airport to ask her what perfume she was wearing. She said beautiful and he bought me some. I still love it to this day, AND SO DOES HE!!!

I, too, think the smell of Beautiful has changed. At first I thought it was me and maybe my chemistry had changed. But, my friend, who has worn this since it first came out and was her signature fragrance, stopped wearing it too. She also said it didn't smell they way it used to. She thought she had bought a bad bottle, returned it, and the other bottle smelled funny too. Both of us have stopped wearing it. Does anyone know if Estee Lauder is doing something with their fragrances because the same thing happened to me with White Linen - had worn it for years and the last two bottles I bought both smelled weird so I don't wear it anymore either.

You know how smell and associations can work?Unfortunately it has ruined this fragrance,for me. A while back a woman who worked for me was a serious alcoholic and drug addict(I can't believe my idiot boss made me keep her "because no-one else was available!!!")and she wore a gallon of Beautiful each day.Throughout the day she would sweat heavily because of all the nasty stuff she would pump into her system on a 24/7 basis,and it would mix with her fragrance,making it sour and rancid,much like vinaigre. Add to that the fact that she was the meanest,most evil-spirited person around,and a consumate back stabber,and,well,every time I smell Beautiful on anyone,now,I just can't help it,my mood turns as sour as this creature's B.O. And that's a shame,because there was a time when catching a whiff of this scent just made me want to breathe deeper.It's a lovely rose based floral with a hint of fruit,and as always,with compatible chemistry, it is really,really nice.Enjoy!

Beautiful Sheer is really very nice, it's not as sharp as the original and it retains the best features of the original. Although it's supposed to be a sheer body mist, it lasts and lasts on my skin (lasts much longer than Pleasures) and I do feel really beautiful the whole day round.

I think that you ladies must have gotten a bad batch. The one that I bought for my mom a while back smelled really good. Smelled it recently, still smelled good to me....

This frangance is a little too soapy smelling.

I used to wear Beautiful about 12 years ago and recall how lush yet fresh it smelled. I agree, it definitely smells different now...somewhat sharp and has an odd note to it. I think that is the "rubber" smell that you noticed. Too bad my old bottle has since gone bad.

I just bought a bottle. I love it. Perfect for any season. It's light, soft, sweet, floral, fruity-- like cherry I think. Very appropriate for the office. That perfume drew my attention because I saw on a best selling perfume list of the year 2000 that it was the most sold in the US.

Beautiful is a nice fragrance, but I have never been able to smell any of the descriptive notes in it....I think it smells like a heavy synthetic floral with a strange drydown. I have better luck with the shower gel, lotion or body cream than I do the spray. I don't wear Beautiful too much anymore because I do not want to smell like everyone else.

It's not the type of scent you would wear during the day- It may work as a formal scent, but that's about it. Too strong for casual wear.

Has anyone else noticed an unpleasant change in the smell of Beautiful? I've worn it for 12 years and always loved it, but now it smells like burning plastic. I've bought and returned 4 bottles in the last 6 months, hoping Estee Lauder would go back to the original scent. The sales associate at Marshall Field's says several people have complained recently that beautiful does not smell good anymore. What happened?

It seems that beautiful does not have the same smell as it used to. It smells like motor oil now. That's the only perfume that I've worn for the last 7 or 8 years. I don't know what to wear now.

Thanks, gthang. I will buy the Beautiful Sheer Mist next time. :) My new favorite perfume is Coco Mademoiselle, you should try it. It smells wonderful! (I am a total perfumaholic, I am always buying some.) Not sure about winter perfumes, I just tend to find something I like and wear it all the time. (Coco is what I am currently wearing as my signature, don't plan to stop) But for summer I would try Ocean Dream by Giorgio. It is light and really nice smelling. Or maybe Ralph by Ralph Lauren. It is floral/fruity smelling. :)

Yes, the Beautiful Sheer Mist does smell like the dry down of the original Beautiful, you should try it. Also, i would appreciate any ideas for good summer vs. winter scents. Anybody?

i just bought a bottle of Beautiful. I always thought it smelled so nice and wanted some, finally bought some. It is sharp smelling when I first spray it on but once it drys it smells so very wonderful. Some of you say that the Beautiful Sheer Mist is lighter/better...does it smell sharp when you first spray it on or does it smell more like the regular smells after it has dried? If it is the later then next time I will buy Beautiful Sheer Mist instead of the regular. :)

BEAUTIFUL IS, OF COURSE, BEAUTIFUL. HOWEVER, IT'S SEEMS STRONGER THAN IT USED TO BE. I SEEM TO REMEMBER A MUCH SOFTER SCENT. ALL I NEED IS THE LOTION AND THEN JUST A DAB OF THE PERFUME. BEAUTIFUL SHEER MIST(?)IS MUCH NICER. TOO BAD I HAVE THIS BIG OL' BOTTLE OF THE ORIGINAL ON MY DRESSER =O(

Headache perfume.

I really like many of Estee Lauder's perfumes...and I remembered Beautiful as one of the best. I remember being a little girl in the early 80s and thinking it was the most sophisticated and glamorous perfume ever. However, I sprayed some on today and couldn't wait to get rid of the stink! It's an overly sweet fragrance that lingers unpleasantly, and it's a bore. There's nothing particularly distinctive about it. The only reason I don't mark it a complete dud is that after a few hours, I was able to bear the scent tolerably.

I started wearing Beautiful in 1986. I switch off often, but I always go back to my #1 choice.

This is one of my top four...absolutely BEAUTIFUL!

Maybe Beautiful is a pleasant fragrance but I've never been around any woman who DIDN'T wear an entire bottle at a time. Ruined the fragrance for me.

I love this fragrance! When I wear this I always receive compliments. Someone told me, "it really is beautiful" after they asked what perfume I was wearing that smelled so good.

...and they're always good. It's a full-bodied white floral with a touch of green. Sweet, feminine, gorgeous, loved by every age group and could be worn all year long. I think it's Estee Lauder's best.

I've used beautiful for about 10 years...it's my all-time fave. My husband and I were countries apart and he would smell it in a grocery store and chase down the scent, thinking about me. No other scent has that affect on him. I love it!

What is it about Estee Lauder scents?All of them are way too strong.They must put the same ingredients in all of their perfumes in diferent proportions. To me, they have a bite to them.Something sharp.Anyway, Beautiful perfume is nasty. The lotion is ok because it's lighter. I think Beautiful Sheer is much better.

I have been wearing Beautiful for years and never get tired of it. It's my favorite Estee Lauder fragrance, and my husband just LOVES it! It's such a sweet, classic scent, and I would definitely recommend it.

Try Phantom of the Opera. Not popular, but has a wonderful, light scent.

beautiful IS "BEAUTIFUL"

I have worn Beautiful off and on for about 10 years. It is my favorite, but I find that I need to switch every once in awhile because it starts to turn on me. I get a lot of compliments when I wear it. When I start wearing a different perfume, I'll sometimes catch a wiff of Beautiful on someone else and wonder why I switched.

I have been wearing Beautiful for a few years.It is nice to be somewhere and someone walk up to me and say you smell so nice what is that you are wearing, and the best part is a little goes a long way.

I am a huge fan of Beautiful. It has been a favorite of mine for a few years now, I know I've had it for at least 5 years, and I'm always asked what, "What are you wearing", when I have it on. I went to the doctor a couple of months ago with a sinus infection (I could'nt smell a thing) and the nurse asked me what was I wearing. On the follow-up visit she said, "Here's Miss. Strickland with her good smelling self, she always smells sooo good! I guess you can see why I't one of my favorites. It does cost a little more, but it's worth every penney.

It screams 80's. Too strong. Nonetheless, if you choose to wear it, please have mercy on the rest of us and go easy on it.

I tried this perfume the other day, and I find that it is too strong. One of those annoying perfumes people wear that you have to walk 20 feet behind them, so you don't gag.

I have never used Beautiful before. I have finally saved enough money to purchase a bottle and can hardly wait. I hear it is the ultimate!

My grandmother introduced me to Beautiful when I was about 14-15. I have worn NOTHING since. It's a little expensive, but WELL worth the money. I don't think I'll ever change--you just feel so open wearing it. I've been using it for 10 years now and absolutely love it. I get SOOOO many comments on it also.

I do believe that this is the most wonderful smelling perfume there is. I do not own a bottle of this, but my sister wore Beautiful for years and I always thought she smelled so wonderful. If you want a very classy scent that never goes out of style, this one is it. It is GREAT!!

By far, the best fragrance I've ever owned, and also my mother's favorite ever since I known her. Now I why, it actually smells beautiful.

Starts a little sharp but blends very nicely after a little while, then lasts and lasts and smells just great.

This is my least favorite fragrance out of the Estee Lauder line. My favorites are Youth Dew, Spellbound and White Linen. I've tried to like Beautiful, but it just doesn't smell very good on me. Although on the right person, I'm sure it smells great.

For me, it is the finest perfume fragrance ever sold by Estee' Lauder. The name certainly fits it "beautifully". Makes you feel feminine and carefree. Love the trailing effect it has when I walk.

Beautiful perfume is by far the best smelling perfume on the market.It is well worth the money you pay for it.Two sprays and it lasts all day.There is a certain quality about it that does make you feel Beautiful.I wear it when I think I look my best.
