Got this one for my brother who loves Old Spice and Stetson (they actually smell good on him) He said that he likes the scent, but that it didn't last as long. He works 12 hour days and said that there was no sign of it more than halfway through his day. He was disappointed in the longevity not the scent though.

This is not a fragrance for everyone, but I've loved it since I chose it for my then-boyfriend and while he's gone (hooray), my love for Habit Rouge isn't. It's old-fashioned, but not stuffy or stale, more classic and vintage. Definitely for a man with style AND substance. From it's dark citrus opening to it's leathery drydown, this one is a keeper.

This one is definitely heavy on older spices. This reminded me of those grizzled old grandfathers who's favorite candies were black pepper and black licorice or who drove around in cars that had one too many cigar burns on the upholstery. This is an OLD scent and reminds me of something out of the 1940s. This is very aromatic but not in necessarily a pleasant way but it is definitely distinctive.

This is strong cinnamon, lemon zest, and powder out of the gate. It has spice to make you scratch your nose. Over time it settles to a lightly floral vanilla. There's certainly cedar in there as well, but it is behind the scenes. I don't hate it; it's assertive and distinctive. I can't see it as something I would be able to wear confidently and it's also not something I'm in love with myself. I respect it, but ultimately it is not for me.

This is not a cologne, this is something that should be placed on target boards for men to shoot in a fire arm shooting range. It's got to be an outdoors shooting range so that the stench would not bombard our noses.

BBD

01/25

Although I've been aware of HR's greatness for a while, I only recently rediscovered it's greatness, and perhaps now that I know more about fragrances I love it even more. Testing the EdT, it starts out with a full citrus (not sharp) that slowly gives way to a musky vanilla. As the base emerges vanilla is joined by patchouli and a twinge of leather. Longevity and sillage are great. This is great for anyone, male or female, of any age. I'd love to get the EdP or super-rare extrait version.

ANDREW

05/20

I was introduced to this French classic in 1985 and have been wearing it ever since. It definitely is an autumn/winter cologne or for evening wear. Habit Rouge will get you noticed with its sensual, refined, complex notes. It can be heavy so keep in mind that a little goes a long way

SANDOKAN

02/29

I have used the EdC for a while now and have changed my opinion. It is still very good and can be worn in the daytime and both casually or in the office. I am delighted by the Eau de Parfum, though. It smells a bit different. There is a woody and peppery note in it that can also be found in Vetiver Extreme. The Eau de Parfum gets better and better the longer you wear it. I can't get enough of it and even love to sense it the next morning. I would only wear it in the evening.

SANDOKAN

01/22

I'm afraid they slightly changed the formula some time. It's hardly noticable in the Eau de Toilette, but the Eau de Cologne is definitely different than it used to be (and I don't mean this Legere version now). I used to find the Eau de Cologne, which was in a different bottle, better than the Eau de Toilette. Not anymore.

JUDE C

06/24

This stuff is really for older folks. It has such a classic vanilla scent and lasts forever. I really like it. I do not think I would buy it, because, similar to Givenchy Gentleman, this stuff is for 40 and up. However, give props where props are due. A legendary fragrance, just not for me right now - however, I see it in my future. If you are under 40 and want a Guerlain scent - go with Vetiver. The best I have tried from this legendary design house.

JAVIER

05/23

I guess my nose wasn't yet ready for Habit Rouge a few years ago (see below), but now i think it's a brilliant scent. I really enjoy wearing it.

TONY T

04/03

says it all. very weird scent. goes on strong and sweet then settles into some masculine wonder of the 3rd world or something. if you saw mel gibson's apocolypto the entire tribe that got captured could pull this one off.

MARIO JUSTINIANI

01/18

For aristocratic, depraved, and sophisticated barbarians. Yep. Keith Richards, Marianne (not so) Faithfull and --hang on to your hats--Prime Minister Tony Blair. Are the Brits wonderfully crazy, or what? Ok, here's the lowdown: It's a great citrus opening going on to chilled vanilla on ice. Nothing smells quite like it. Strong stuff, so spray lightly! For those who find it too sweet there is, beside the new Legere, an EDC version (confused yet?) which reportedly has more citrus than vanilla notes. IN ANY CASE, this one is cool without trying. Only one disagreement with other admirers: Strictly nightime or autumn/ winter scent--avoid it in the heat.

ALFIE

01/15

this fragrance is fresh and simple paco rabbane XS type but there is a composition which makes this fragrance differenct from others. try it then u will know it

RICHARD

11/09

This vintage wonder has many layers to it. Clean and sensible, start off the day loud and wears down softly. At first, it seems feminine, then it becomes masculine. Not for everyone!

IMAVERICK

10/01

I've tried both side by side, finally, and to be honest, there is really something to be said about the Legere version. It opens perhaps 3 times as (lemon) citrus than the classic which may come as rather shocking for an oriental. But afterwards, as you get to the heart and base of the fragrance, the Legere becomes sweet with the Vanilla being much more prominent than with the classic which becomes more earthy yet musky. The Legere has brought the classic to the 21st century! NO REGRETS with Legere, and the classic still a favorite as well!

SUSANBEADS

08/15

This is a legal high for me. Too bad it doesn't come in a candle scent. Much better than the modern crap that is out there.

SANDOKAN

08/09

I have tried this "Habit Rouge legere", it is completely different from the good classic Habit Rouge and has unpleasant notes as most new men's colognes (like for example that terrible "L'instant"). Since I didn't like it, I tried to scrub it off at home, but in spite of all the soap I used it doesn't come off. The best Habit Rouge used to be the old "Eau de Cologne", which they discontinued. I don't know if the new Eau de Cologne (only available in the boutique in Paris) is the same. Anyway, I can only get the Eau de Toilette. I miss the old range of products, both of Vetiver and Habit Rouge, there were all kinds of sizes, with or without spray, Eau de Cologne, Eau de Toilette, deo spray, stick, shower gel, soap, etc used to smell like the cologne itself. And HANDS OFF anything that says "new" or "light" or "legere" - yuck!

BYME

06/25

It is common knowledge that Guerlain, pressed by shareholders LMVH Group, started messing up with their classic fragrances in the recent years, claiming to remove potential allergen substances from them in order to make them conform with industry recommendations, regulations, or for reasons only God knows. They have ruined eg. Vetiver this way, and now they consider reformulating more or all of their classics they haven't tampered with so far, including this stunningly beautiful Habit Rouge here. This, with the myriad of mediocre, insignificant, ephemeral scents dumped out by Guerlain are indicative of some madness going on. I hope consumers can prevent Guerlain from committing such suicide.

DENNIS

06/21

If it's good & leathery enough for Keef, it's good enough for me. Also, Marianne Faithfull still wears Habit Rouge.

MIKE FROM MANHATTAN

05/15

Habit Rouge was my signature scent for a long time in the 1980's, but it later became hard to find in New York City. I recently rediscovered it in Bergdoff Goodman and love it once again. I disagree with those who say it is feminine. It may smell this way on a cardboard or from the bottle, but it must be worn on the skin to bring out the bitterish notes of leather, which definitely make it is a masculine fragrance. This fragrance and the entire product line must be made readily available again in New York City and the rest of North America and if so, it would show to those unfamiliar with it why it is a top seller in Europe.

MERMISS

03/25

This is another version of Shalimar, or a man's version, only earthier to me. There's something definitely sexy about it, partly because it's so smart with a spiritual mysteriousness to it.

ERICK25

02/12

I've been so many years looking for my signature scent, I've bought thousands and two years ago I know about Guerlain house and went to a Mall to try them. Suddenly I felt like I've found what I was eager for: Habit Rouge. It's true that it is a little femenine one, but attitude is all you need to take it with you. Also, I comes in EDT, EDP (which is different and more modern than EDT) and soon Guerlain will come out with a Summer version, more ligere and reformulized one. There is options to everyone, but better to keep the secret about this gem. SORRY FOR MY ENGLISH, I WRITE FROM SPAIN.

STUIGI

12/10

This is perhaps the most feminine men's cologne ever made. It smells like perfume.

MELH

09/30

Habit Rouge is one of the most elegant yet sexy and not old man fragrances I ever came across. One of my ex-s use to wear this and it suited him perfectly (ok, he was gorgeous without HR, too ;-)) It's light and intense at the same time, just like my beloved Samsara. I'm not very good at describing male scents, because I only wear very feminine (or supposed to be) scents, but I think that HR has fresh hazelnut in it. HR and S matched well together at that period... but he's gone... never mind! There is plenty of fish in the sea, isn't there?

TONI FINISH

07/22

Exellent stuff for sure. Classic smell, and it brings to my mind great notes, like cherries and some sensual suede. It is a first class scent so to say, but for me it has suprisingly short top-note, which leads to this soft, but distant drydown. It is little bit disapointing. And I also think that Habits image is a bit too old-modish, and festive. But still its great.

SANDOKAN

07/07

Like Vetiver, there used to be a wide range of Habit Rouge goodies. At least the Habit Rouge bottle is the same, but they discontinued the Eau de Cologne sprays (50ml and 100ml), the old deospray (100ml) that smelt just like the cologne, the stick is different (although a very nice smell now), I think it was a big disappointment for Habit Rouge and Vetiver fans that they changed and minimized the range and design. The most shocking is that they changed the formulas! The Eau de Cologne can still be bought: in one boutique in Paris. There is also an Eau de Parfum now, also available in the Guerlain boutique. I miss the old Eau de Cologne sprays, the scent was nicer.

JAVIER

06/22

Weird-smelling top-notes develop into a vanilla-smelling mess!! not for me, i prefer more masculine scents, thank you.

ANS

06/07

Habit Rouge(1965) was created by Jean-Paul Guerlain in his twenties. It was touted as 'Shalimar Pour Homme' and if you smelled the latter, you can see why that it. In its day, Habit Rouge would have caused quite a stir in the perfume world, together with Eau Sauvage. It was risky, bold and very sensual, not really characteristics of male fragrances at the time. However, with its sensuality also came something that was ultimately manly, sophisticated and luxurious. Habit Rouge was immediately received and embraced by frenchmen and still is a top seller in France and around the globe. So how can so many men be wrong? Well, we're not and here's why: Top Notes: Lemon, lime, bergamont, orange. Middlenotes: Carnation(clove), patchouli, iris, cedar, pepper, anise Basenotes: Leather, amber, vanilla I know my run down of ingredients differs from the one on this website, but trust me, it is true to the original. One thing the buyer has to know is there is a distinct difference between the EDC and EDT. The EDC which is the ORIGINAL version is lighter, more citrus and less woodly. The later version that came out(EDT) is a more heavy version of the original with more intense woody and spicy notes. The newest version, the Eau du Parfum is even more heavy with the addition of agarwood(oud) and neroli as the middle note(stay away from this one). So if one has to buy Habit Rouge, I would reccomend the original version, but the EDT is still fantastic! So when should we wear such a bold and heady mix of sex and sophistication? Well for a start, try colder weather. Really, this fragrance should only be worn during the colder months as it is strong, heady and sweet. Some 'experts' believe that this is a night fragrance, but I do know it works very well on a cold winters day with warm woolen sweaters and a scarf to add the finishing touch. However, its sexiness also reminds me of something wild, untamed and insolent and would work very well on an evening out to some parisian niteclub(or wherever you are). So what makes it such an addiction? Well, like all great creations, this one takes full advantage of its complexity as it evolves on the skin. The citrus opening gives in to a balsamic, spicy, woody heart, as it warms down to a sweet, sensual base of leather, amber and vanilla. Not many male fragrances I know contain such amounts of vanilla. I am still undecided as to which of the two ingredients gives it that carnation aroma, carnation or glove. In any case, this carnation/glove aroma along with the eastern spices and patchouli really gives this fragrance an exotic and oriental edge. Habit Rouge actually brings up images of an indian or midde-eastern bazzar with the aromas of incense and spices filling the air. No doubt Habit Rouge is not for everyone, but for me, it is perhaps the best fragrance ever created for men. Simply.

EZHNO PAH-TOO

04/10

I took a flyer on this one after reading the reviews below. I have been a Vetiver/Guerlain (and Carven) fan for a long time but for some reason just never got introduced to this fragrance. I lack the ability to write eloquent perfume reviews -- but Habit Rouge is excellent and I recommend it! It was an immediate "add" to my list of all-time favorites because it seems to last longer and is much more complex than the usual "older" colognes I like. I think Habit Rouge is terrific!

TAKIO

01/17

Just because the top has a kind of uneventful spiciness by a combination of freah bergamot and bitter bay. The middle appears to be uneventful, but the last note is just breath-taking. I spray Habit Rouge on my body before I start to work in the morning. By the time I finish my work around 5PM, my body starts to radiate quite irrestible smell of abmbergris and carnation as the last note. This last note is beyond male/female boundaries, and incredibly sexy. Probably the best way to try is to put Habit Rouge on your torso and armpit before going to bed. When you get up in the next morning, you'll notice the exotic last note on your body and will agree with me completely.

"Vetiver" is so fresh and elegant, "Heritage" is delicate and beautifully earthy and "Habit Rouge" is the elegance made a perfume. This is my favorite fragrance. A true classic. The fragrance opens very 'citrusy' and fresh and as it develops vanilla and leather dominate. A true all-round fragrance which is also very long lasting.
