Hermes
The whimsical scent, called Elixir des Merveilles (French for Water of Wonders) has been described as surprising, refreshing and magical. Elixir des Merveilles perfume has notes that include elemi, bitter orange, Italian lemon, Indonesian pepper and pink pepper. There's also what the house calls an "ambergris accord," plus woody notes, including oak, cedar, vetiver, balsam of Peru and tears of Siam. Unlike most fragrances, which traditionally only reveal woody and ambery notes at their base, Eau des Merveilles' are noticeable throughout. And it has almost no floral notes - a rarity in a women's scent. Serge Mansau designed Elixir des Merveilles' orange bottle to invite play, like a toy. It is rounded, save for three flat planes - two on its bottom and one on its back, so the flacon can be set down slanting right or left, or laid flat and used as a magnifying glass. Eau des Merveilles' outer box, created at Hermes, is like a theater showcasing the scent. It also is meant to resemble a secret drawer.

I love the deeply exotic, spiced, and woody scents that dominate this perfume. The medicinal scent wears off first. If that is a scent you don't like give it about 30 minutes to wear off. It reminds me of older and more complex scents that are not as popular with younger women. My husband and daughter really liked it on me. For family scent preference comparison, he wears Lagerfeld Classic and Lacoste Blanc colognes and my daughter wears Burberry and Chanel No. 5 perfumes.
Too spicy
not for me. not sweet enough. very woody/medical smelling
Please don’t make a snap judgement, let it sit and then decide. Hated it at first, after about 30 minutes it was better. Still not for me far too masculine.
Let this settle on your skin before you make your final judgement! At first, I thought this was too masculine and almost medicinal. After about half and hour or so of wear, that settled down and I got this warm, citrusy and woody scent bubble around me. Long lasting, moderate projection. It's fairly unisex, so anyone can enjoy this.
I love this scent so much. A gorgeous sweet amber scent with a bright citrus note. I will be tempted to purchase a full size when I finally use this one up.
Omg this smells soooo gooood. I love that this line comes out very musky and unisex on me
I really wanted to enjoy this one too, but on me it smelled to aquatic…
This is a very masculine scent. To masculine for my taste. This should be labeled unisex I returned mine. Very strong
Very pine scented, smelled more.like a man's fragrance and less like a warm womans fragrance.
My new fave. At first I smell the orange but then the cedar and amber. It's a very sensual fragrance. If you like woodsy scents this one is the one you need.
I am normally a more sultry woodsy perfume gal and this one is bright and cheery but i love it! A wonderful summer smell.
Love. Bottle worthy.
Love!
I'm not sure if I'm anosmic to this fragrance, but I really couldn't smell much of anything. I detected some citrus and a lot of wood and salt not much else and that was all very muted, which was unexpected for a fragrance of this strength. I wish I could provide a better review, but to me there just wasn't much to this fragrance at all and I actually typically like fragrances that sit closer to the skin.
Smelled like urine, immediately requested an exchange.
Thank you
Spicy sophisticated smell perfect for date night
Love, love, love! Warm, inviting, and unique. Ill be buying the full bottle.
It smells like a man's cologne. I will not be using it, yuck!
Its quite strong at first, but ive found that it simmers down a bit. Both me and my partner adore the scent. It is quite mature though so younger ladies might not like it.
One spray and I had people in my house asking what in the world I used. It's very very strong, reminds me more of perfumes older generations would wear. To me it just stinks.
Really strong. I do not like it at all.
Hmmm...this is a hard one. It’s out of my normal scent range which is why I queued it. Kind of a chemical, hairspray like scent? I don’t regret trying it, as I’ve found that if I layer it with a more powdery scent I love the combination! I definitely get the pepper and citrus.
Smells like an old lady
Rather strong. It's not an every day scent, but I don't mind it every once in a while.
Pleasant and unusual scent. Smells like citrus and incense with the citrus fading over time. I wish it lasted longer but after a few hours it's gone.
I think it’s the ambergris accord that I don’t like. I can appreciate that it is a good fragrance but I’m personally averse to it.
It's okay but nothing I would buy to wear for sure. It's defiantly something I would wear maybe to work or just to run some errands. It's not what I expected at all.
This to me smells like the left overs of a ten year old perfume First time of sending something back
To me it smelled like the 2o year old bottle of Old Spice that I found under my parents' bathroom sink when I was a child. I could not return this one fast enough. I can say that the fragrance had staying power. I was catching whiffs of it all night even after washing it off with soap.
OH MY G. This is like liquid stars mixed with fireworks and diamond dust. It REEKS of taste and class. I am obsessed. It is sexy in exactly the way I want to feel sexy. I really don't know what else to say.......
Not for me. Very strong scent. I have tried to wear it and u developed a headache!
The initial spray smells like a good men’s cologne than it settles down like a lingering musk definitely a winter scent it does linger well and leaves a scent behind you would be great on silk sachets as it holds well but it does not mix well with everyone scent chemistry can be a bit overbearing like grandmas old Chantilly lace or you just love it I did not mind after a few sprays but won’t order a bigger bottle or try to order again as I prefer lighter scents
Strong scent, only need a little bit. Long lasting
Not for me, really reminds me of an elderly woman.
This one is tricky. When I tried it for the first time I hated it. Very strong and pungent. I was sure it had to be returned. The next day I still had some residue on me and it hit different. I tried it for a second time and I love it. Give it a try. A small amount goes a long way.
Usually I like almost all perfume. I received my monthly scent of Hermès. I loved it so much I ordered the bottle. When using the actual perfume , the scent is very different from the sample. The perfume is strong was even reminded that I smelled like a grandma. It is strong and unpleasant.
I love love love this scent. It’s going to smell different on everyone. It smells sexy and seductive on me and I get more compliments then anything. Lasts all day and some. My seatbelt has a faint hint of it and when my guy drives my car he says It instantly turns him on.
Smell like an old lady.
This is the 1st time I have given a low rating for a perfume. I have other Hermès perfumes and adore them. This is too busy and almost obnoxious. I adore the House of Hermès but this scent missed the mark almost to smelling like a cheap men’s cologne. I will NEVER wear it. It is horrendous.
Love this one. I will wear this to work and to play. I love it. It isn't sweet, but it is sexy.
Very nice “floriental” fragrance. Smells different as each hour passes and the fragrance warms to your skin. Long-lasting, and leaves a wonderful “after scent” on anything I wear. Most suitable for those over 30 years of age.
Comes out VERY strong (makes me sneeze), but after a few min it calms down a little and is wonderful - definitely an oriental vibe, borderline something you may not think twice if you smelled it on a man. The scent lasts all day, which is also great! The only thing I don’t like is the longest lingering scent is pepper (think men’s body spray), so if you sprayed it on a shirt for the day then didn’t wash the shirt before wearing it again, you will smell pepper.
I love this fragrance. I’ve had it on for over 6 hours and it still smells great. Soft and subtle throughout the day. Very sexy and great for a night out
Smells better on my husband than me
This scent isn't for everyone. Thankfully it smells great on me. It lasts forever which I love. I have trouble find scents with such longevity.
This is my favorite go-to! I wear it almost every day.
I love this scent just my kind. I'm in love with exotic fragrances. It last a long time and It mixes well with me. I hope more to come. First I smell the citrusl not my type but mixed with the chocolate makes it unique. It's definitely a evening fragrance but I would wear it in the day time.
Smells very pretty.
Wow. Just wow. This is wonderful and unique. When I first sprayed it, I was unsure if I liked it, bc it seemed like orange overload. Then the spiciness came, as it dried and I was like "okay, not bad, not bad." Then I decided to spray a second time, and oh my goodness! The chocolate, caramel smell was to die for!!! Alas, the chocolate smell did not last long. So good for fall, even though its spring, and I'm wearing it now. Spicy, but not too spicy, and warm. Not a frilly, girly girl smell. Men could definitely wear this too. Not for everyone, but its one thing to simply smell good, its another thing to smell pleasant and interesting.
Love this very sophisticated fragrance.
Im not to fond of this scent...it smells bad more like a mans aftershave....dont like it..wont ever order it again
This was the best smelling fragrance ever. I will be purchasing a big bottle
reminds me of an old mans cologne
This scent is exquisite. If you can't wear SEXY.. Don't pick it. Not for the faint of heart. However, warm, rich, spicy with a soft peppery notes- dript with sweet Amber honey smell. OMG amazing. Immediately switched my subscription around- got another month; and then bought a bottle!
Sorry. THIS WAS THE WORST. I had to shower just to remove the smell. Not sure exactly what it was. It didn't not blend well with me.
Simply put, it stunk. It had a sort of rancid smell. Disappointed.
Not quite as strong as Eau and more delicateq but you can tell it's the same family unlike some flankers. Love it
Very heavy, a little bit too mature for my taste.
I really love this scent. It's a bit exotic without being too spicy. Warm and cozy.
Not for me. Too strong. Maybe good for an older person.
Not for me
Not for me!
This was quite possibly the worst fragrance I have ever experienced. Negative stars was not an option or I would have. The only way I can accurately describe is, "Hell, no!".
It smells strong at first most likely due to the Pachouli. It smells mature & sophisticated. But it's a little too mature smelling for me. It also doesn't seem to last very long. I really thought I would love this one base on the notes. I did get compliments. But I think my mum will enjoy it more than I do.
The fragrance is very sophisticated & niche, it just doesn't have the power to back it up. When I try a fragrance, I will use it on my pillows for a different perspective while I sleep. This fragrance would all but disappear in the span of doing my nighttime skincare routine. For the price, there is just no excuse.
exchanged, didn't really like,
This is an amazing scent. Starts off a little strong but fades to a lovely sweet fruity scent. The only reason for less than 5 star is it doesn’t seem to last all day. Otherwise I highly recommend. You just may have to reapply
Unfortunately this scent turned me off so much I dumped it down the sink. I had exchanged another perfume for this one so I couldn't exchange this one or I definitely would have.
It smells nice but it is too musky for my taste. My mom loves it though, so I gave it to her. Very long lasting.
Gross. Old lady perfume
It’s a nice scent but a little too “woody” for me.
I love this perfume
classy scent, beautiful and elegant
I am always complemented when I wear this fragrance.
Best perfume ever!
Love this fragrance, and this bottle is gonna last me a while. It replaces my first bottle of this magnificent perfume.
I love this & so does my husband!!!!!
My son bought me this perfume in Italy I love it but can only buy it online Thank you.
I love this perfume I can only buy it online It takes a little while for me to receive it but thank you.
I absolutely love this fragrance. It isn't too flowery or too musky. It is just right!!
I remember smelling this on a passer by a few years back and she was so startled when I pursued her to find out what it was. I have bought 3 bottles since. I love the freshness of it, it's not floral. I find it quite a sexy scent, and while it has a masculine kick to it, I absolutely love it. And so does everyone I know. I sprayed some EDP last night, and I can still smell it this morning, and it smells better the longer its on. A real lingerer. Fantastic.
this one is an absolutely beautiful haunting classic kinda fragrance ! infact i tried this one n mistook it for the eau which is an edt n posted a review there instead. i love the concentrated essence of this eau de parfum n it merges with the body to form a unique and very sensual n personal fragrance !!
I think this perfume would be deliciously perfect on a man after about 1/2 an hour. Women who wear woodier scents well would probably also like this one. For me the woods notes stand out & I typically love them, but find this one too heavy to wear. My sinuses behind my eyebrows hurt. The complexity & uniqueness are nice but it just hits so hard all at first. longevity is good but does not leave me craving more. Not an average scent but the pro's and cons balance each other making me give it a 3.
Elixir des Merveilles is centered around ambergris with supporting notes of orange and cocoa.. it's uniquely woody and gourmand simultaneously. Works on guys as well as girls and lasts forever on this skin. Excellent fragrance from Hermes
If you're looking for something unique in the sea of fruity florals out there, this stands out. I like the original, too, but the elixir is deeper and more sensual, and the bitter orange note is very appealing and remains throughout the life of the scent. A winner!
A friend recommended this as something different. She sprayed a little on me and I've got to say it's really nice! It's very sexy. I'd wear this on an evening out - not at work. There's also something a bit masculine about it too but all in all it gets the thumbs up from me!
What an incredible scent this Elixir is, but I have to ask, why on Earth did they design the sprayer like this? Am I the only person who has inadvertently sprayed the bottle simply by handling it? Mine has such a quick trigger that just placing the bottle down I've ended up squirting it by accident. At first I thought the darn thing was leaking as I had perfume all over my hands. Then I realized what was happening, so now I am very careful. Guess that's why the product comes with a little clear sleeve over the sprayer? Honestly, it must just be me that I detest this kind of packaging. Omnia, Omnia Crystalline and several others in my collection do this too and I have mistakenly sprayed them all just picking them up, or rearranging them in the drawer. I don't find this kind of sprayer clever. To me, the company is trying to save money not giving us a proper cap, and I resent it. This is not cheap perfume, and I don't want to waste a drop of it!
My oh my, this is dangerous! Thank you Rosaria for introducing me to this magical potion! Reminds me a bit of Angel at the onset, without the heaviness of patchouli. There is a slight licorice note to my nose which is pleasing, not overdone. Magical is a good word for this fragrance. And interestingly, it doesn't change on me with time, as other scents do with the base notes becoming more prominent as the hours go by. This one seems to be consistent on me from beginning to end. I truly love it, and if you like warm, complex, spicy scents you will likely also enjoy Elixir.

I smelled this when it first came out. To me, it smelled like orange soda. Orange-y & effervescent, (with chocolate undertones) but it was pleasant, if you like to smell like that. I didn't like Eau des Merveilles, either, but that doesn't mean it's not good. I don't seem to like an orange smell in scents, or any citrus for that matter, so I guess those two are out, but at least they're not flowery.
I only sampled it twice, but to me, ORANGE SODA. Really, it was orangey & fizzy smelling, not good-not bad. (with a tinge of chocolate)
I like this EDP (the original is an EDT). It's richer and lasts longer. Try it if you find the original too light.

Could someone please explain the difference between the elixir and eau versions of this fragrance?
I wanted a new scent and the saleswoman asked me what scents in the past I had and liked. I remembered "Mystere" by the House of Rochas as one choice. She looked in a book on all scents of all time and told me that I was attracted to Oriental woodsy/spicy. She directed me towards this one and from the moment I tried it, I really liked it. My husband likes it too. It's a bit androgenous, which I find sexy and ... multilayered and complex, which I really am drawn to. I don't like one dimensional scents- I like to smell many components of the perfume. I think I can really smell the chocolate and the orange in it.
I have never had a scent that I like more than elixir des merveilles by Hermes. It is my mother's favorite scent as well and we both hope to wear only this fragrance for the rest of our lives.
This is unlike many of the new gourmand scents out there - this one is very alluring and spicy and sexy and has excellent staying power. I frequently get compliments from both males and females. Excellent choice for winter although I tend to reach for this one year round!
