A few of the reviews said it smelled like a lemon cleaner, and you know, they aren't 100% wrong. That being said, there is something about this fragrance that I REALLY like and it is a new favorite for summer.

Great scent that definitely leans masculine. Great citrus opening that drys down musky. Longevity and projection a bit weak for me.

A perfect citrus fragrance in my opinion. Imagine yourself cutting fresh lemons for lemonade and some fresh mint for a cold mojito on a hot summer day. Refreshing, natural and crisp. Longevity is AMAZING, projection is GREAT. Xerjoff never fails.

Very Green and fresh. Dries down to a musky smell. Slightly more masculine than unisex but I wore it and I liked it.

I was told that this is one of THE BEST xerjoff scents and had to buy it, however I feel like it’s not what I expected at all. Just barely too sweet, and not really and longevity to it, nor is it very strong.

It smells like a bad lemon cleaner. Not my thing and was approaching a smell headache that I've never had before, and I own over 100 different fragrances.

This fragrance definitely exceeded my expectations! I thought it would be a pleasant light juicy citrus that was summery but not that unique. This is such a beautiful combination of smells. The citrus is dry, not juicy, yet still fresh. There is a very nice dry amber musk that grounds the fragrance and also gently lifts it. It has a character of a soft breeze. The dryness is reminiscent of powder but not in a bad way. I absolutely hate baby powder smells and this has no relation to that. It is warm, a bit spicy, soft, round, fresh in all the right ways. A real winner and an all day fragrance that I can't imagine getting tired of. Longevity is not as great as some. It tends to disappear with perspiration. However it stays very nicely on clothing and lasts for a long time in cool dry conditions. Sillage is soft to moderate. I think this could lean feminine or masculine depending on the wearer. Love it!

I love this one. It's bitter lemon, ice cold limoncello. It's not as mass appealing as some other citrus scents, but it's unique, and it's memorable. The real deal, in my opinion, and given that a bottle can be had for under $200, I think I'll purchase it next summer.

If there is citrus in this, I've gone nose-blind to it. There's a light scent, but it settles into an old-lady powder smell. I'll be exchanging this one.

As much as people rave about Xerjoff, so far I have been wholly unimpressed. Being able to try Xerjoff fragrances was one of the main reasons I subscribed to ScentBox! They hold no blame in this though - that is squarely on Xerjoff's shoulders. 1861 Renaissance is meant to be a citrus aromatic fragrance. I found that the citrus portion of the description is true, however I wouldn't call it an aromatic per se. Smelling from just the bottle, the top and mid-notes reminded me of like, citrus-scented Smarties candies. Vaguely chalky/powdery, sweet citrus, a little tang. However, the base notes, which I only discovered spraying on skin, are what completely turned me off and do not give me the "aromatic" portion of the fragrance I was seeking. Perhaps it was the rose-amber-patchouli combo in the drydown. I personally have a sensitivity to ambers and their synthetic equivalents, so I am guessing that is what ultimately turned me off of this fragrance. Certainly not worth the price of a full bottle. Thank you ScentBox for allowing me to sample this before dropping $250 on a big bottle I would have hated!

Strong citrus opening but the dry down is amazing becomes very powdery. Note: it is on the more masculine side so be wary of that.
