Believe the hype!
Gris Charnel, opens with a woody note, than it begins settling into the tea and tonka bean notes. Very sexy and date night. Definitely unisex. I get compliments when I wear this.
This felt too woody and smoky for me, while leaning more masculine than genderless. It just wasn’t a good fit for me.
Finally something good!!! So many scents from scent box smell the same. This starts out with a strong, almost acrid, woody note and that mellows down but never disappears. A waxy vanilla note comes out. The composition is dark, moody, and fascinating.
By far my favorite that I’ve tried. It’s comforting, warm, and beautiful! I’m highly considering a full bottle !
This is one of my favorites! I wanted to try something new, and was always complimented when I wore this!
This smells so sexy and is definitely giving grown woman vibes. I couldn’t stop sniffing it. Just wished it lasted longer on skin. Can’t wait to try it out in cooler weather.
I was skeptical on first spray. Throughout the day I loved it more and more and felt myself wanting MORE! It could be a masculine or feminine scent. It’s labeled as a fall scent, but I feel it’s more spring/summer.
Beautiful fragrance but it was to much for me and this is why I love this box anytime I’m interested in a perfume I have the chance to tried and save me the blind buying
This is so lovely. Very classy and cozy scent. I'm interested in trying more from BDK. The scent bubble this creates is spectacular!
Sophisticated spicy-woody fig scent. Unisex for sure; may be a bit masculine leaning.
love the tea smell, not sure how long it lasts but I enjoyed smelling this on my self.
This is a lovely, sexy, sweet yet smoky fig fragrance and I love it. It’s a mature scent but not “grandmotherly”.
I ordered Gris Charnel and Herod simultaneously from ScentBox. While Gris Charnel has a modern and unique scent that feels fresh and new, its longevity and projection don’t match Herod. Herod lasts more than a day on clothes, whereas Gris Charnel fades in about 6 hours. Overall, it’s a distinctive fragrance worth testing at least once if you’re looking for something different.
I like this scent, but then I tried the extrait version, and I liked that a lot more. This is a great scent and there is a reason it’s so popular.
I love this scent. It's one my husband borrows occasionally. I love the warm woody scent in the dry down, but the fig lends a sweetness that doesn't make it overwhelming. The initial smell is a little abrasive, initially it smells akin to a broken glowstick, but once it settles into the skin it's mellow and warm and comforting.
I absolutely love this one! If you like fig but with a woody dry down this is it. This has become one of my favorites.
I had forgotten I have this as I have so many bottles, but when I grabbed it out of my pile, I don’t know how I had forgotten how amazing it is! So much so that it is now back in my que! It’s one of those scents that you could make like your signature scent. Very unique. At first spray it is a bit strong (which I actually like), and when it dries down it is spicy and warm, like a warm hug. It lasts a long time for me. Absolutely LOVE!
I wanted something soft, this is very vanilla/sweet spice which is not for me. Not terrible but would not buy.
A perfect Fall fragrance. The smokey element is near ubiquitous these days, but GC remains a stand out in its category. Often compared to the aroma of chai tea - spicy, milky, cozy
I didn’t like it at first, maybe it had to settle from shipping? Now, I really like it, not enough for a full bottle yet. It’s sweet and spicy for me at first. I smell the tea, but the dry down, that I love! I can’t stop smelling!
So unique, pretty and comforting. It smells like what it feels like to walk are a plant shop in the autumn while holding warm and creamy latte.
Love this scent!
Not for me
This has become one of my favorite perfumes. It's just so warm and cozy with its opening of fig and tea which is so smooth and inviting. The dry down is really nice as well. It's sweet but not cloying, it's a great tea scent if you love those and its woodiness is perfect as well without overpowering all the other notes. I can't rave enough about this one. Definitely on my list for a full bottle.
Sweet, smooth, creamy
I like this fragrance on myself but it definitely leans a little masculine. My husband has been wearing it and I like it better on him.
At first, the scent is incredibly bourbon heavy and almost smells like dirt. Once it dries down, it smells much better. However, I just can't get over the unpleasant smell when first spraying, so it's not for me.
I can't love this. It's strong, overbearing, not feminine at all. It smells almost masculine to me. It's too much and broadcasts more than I like. I can't even describe a profile other than cheap cologne reminiscent of CK One.
Opens with a bright and slightly tart fig; then morphs into a velvety smooth blend of the Tonka bean and sandalwood. It’s not scandalous, but rather subtle, enveloping and very pleasant.
This one has been one of my favorites it’s a little more masculine but still a very clean soft scent w bit of smoky but sexy smell def gets better and softer through the day I would buy this in the full bottle very unique smell
Too masculine for me. Liked it and gave it to my husband.
Loved this scent. It is my go to.
This is definitely up my alley notes wise but I can only wear this fall/winter when the weather is cooler. It’s not so much a year round anytime fragrance for me so being in Florida I may not get much use of it unfortunatly. In the heat it just gets too spicy/masculine. The creamy sweetness comes out more in cooler temps. The cardamom, fig, tonka stand out most to me.
This is a beautiful fragrance with many layers, it's green and clean in my opinion, it's perfect
Like Commodity Milk but with more depth? I guess this means I pick up the tonka mostly. I’ll wear this in the fall.
Many layers to the scent. Love the fig and slightly boozy twist. The tea is clean. It lasted forever - never overpowering. I think it would work in spring fall and winter all day I think in summer, it would work in the evenings when it was a little cooler It’s down the middle unisex and really enjoyed it
This was a blind buy for me because I had heard of it, but I wasn't able to find it in any of my local department stores. I'm very impressed with it. I like all of these attributes I'd use to describe it. On me, it's woody, soft, fruity, and lightly sweet. I'd say it's primarily woody, like sandalwood, but it doesn't have the sharp edge some woody scents have. It's softened by the softly sweet slightly floral smell that comes to the forefront as it dries. I love some heavier scents and I'm glad I won't feel obligated to put this one aside for warmer weather, because I think although it's not super light and fresh, it's just light enough for some use on warmer days. I know some may disagree, but on me it's squarely unisex. I get a little floral like I mentioned, but it's not enough to be off-putting to guys who don't want to wear a lot of floral scents. It's perfect for women like me who find powerful florals to be overwhelming and cloying. This is one I'd buy a full bottle of.
Not my favorite, only because it’s not in my wheel house, it’s a little more green than I prefer!
Gris Charnel is a wonderfully complex unisex scent. I'm a bit of a tomboy who likes to be ultra feminine every now and then... but I do not like "feminine" scents. This makes me feel like the woman that I am. Spicy, warm, fruity, sexy. I love it. I tend to be a Jo Malone "Myrrh & Tonka" or "Oud & Bergamot" wearer, but BDK is becoming a new fave with "Gris Charnel" and "Creme De Cuir." Woody, spicy, goodness.
I just live this scent! It is exotic, mysterious and soooooo nice.
I can see why this was such a big hype! Lovely fragrance with complex notes. I wish it would be more of a black tea because on my skin it’s almost a tease, the tea is so faint, I just wish it would be more prominent. But a very nice one to have in your collection.
This is NOT UNISEX. Unless you want to smell like a straight dude. It’s just reminds me of something my cigarette smoking uncle would wear to cover the smell. I think it was the black tea and cardamom that killed it for me. It was almost like minty, but just.. idk. I’m not even sure I’d enjoy it on my husband. I had done my queue wrong and it just auto-selected this one for me. I exchanged it. Not a fan at all.
Sweet, fruity (fig), and woody. Reminds me of Yesterday Haze with more sandalwood and less walnut. The realistic fig note is reminiscent of late summers in the Greek Isles.
Turned off at first sniff, but it settles down much nicer.
Don't like it very much
I originally wanted to try this to see how strong the fig notes are; I feel like it's hard for fragrances to really capture fig as a top note. It's not bad at all! Definitely musky and unisex, if any sort of musk or strong, masculine leaning fragrances aren't your thing, I wouldn't buy this. I would recommend sampling it before splurging on a full body, this seems like it could easily be a love it or hate it fragrance. But for what it is, I like it. This is an assertive, attention-grabbing scent for sure. Like I said before, the fig note isn't bad, but it's still not the best I've smelled from a perfume.
Very unique and different than everything I own or have smelled. It’s a beautiful, masculine scent (which I line wearing as a woman), however it’s missing something o can’t describe to CAPTURE me. It is a beautiful fragrance. I’ll continue using my subscription and will enjoy it but will not purchase again.
A nice, creamy, vanilla with fig and woods. To me, it’s fairly smack dab in the middle unisex. Not too sweet, so it’s not suffocating, and it lasts all day on me. I feel like this is one that is better in the air as a scent trail, rather than being sniffed up close
Old lady smell
One of my all time favorite scents!
I feel like an absolute monster writing this because I know this house is quality but this is very similar to Phlur's Father Figure (though with much stronger spillage), but I prefer the latter because it's a bit softer at the edges. I love fig, but there's a sharp, maybe bitter or burnt note here that makes me want to avoid it. Phlur is very much an unserious fragrance brand to me, but definitely give Father Figure a try if you like fig, oriental or green notes, or this fragrance.
Cozy, likable cool-girl vibes. I get a lot of black tea and creamy sandalwood, some sweetness from the tonka bean and an edgy note (cardamom, maybe?) I get the fig at the open but it doesn’t last more than an hour on my skin. I love it. Would consider a full bottle.
I didn’t love the scent…for older ladies
I really enjoy Gris Charnel which smells very similar to Initio's Rehab to me. I have a difficult time describing it because the notes blend harmoniously together to strike a unified chord. The accord is pretty linear to me and is long lasting. The overall character is luxurious, smooth, dark and soft. I can sense the deep vanilla, resinous wood, toasted fig with honey and spices, and aromatics that give it a subtle masculine feel, although it's clearly also suitable for a woman. It is an assertive fragrance that feels like wearing an expensive suit or gown - sophisticated and nuanced. A complete experience in itself like a lavish 5 course dinner. I would not like to wear this everyday because it is very rich but it is very beautiful fragrance! I hope to revise this review in the future when my nose is better educated and I can offer more objective impressions.
A really nice, unusual but approachable scent. On me, it opens with a blast of soap/laundry detergent (thanks to the Iris) with the fig quickly coming through, followed by some light woods. It's really nice, it's truly unisex (because everyone can smell like clean figs) without leaning too traditionally masculine. Ideal for daytime or office wear. I only tested it in the winter, but I think it would work well in spring and fall as well.
The longevity and sillage is potent! I keep smelling this everywhere in my house after a single spritz. The problem is, I find this scent appaling. The initial spray is like a sweet pubch in the face reminiscent of something... perhaps a snobby hotel guest. Following this it lingers so long. I can't put my finger on the notes but I would expect to repel people if I wore this. I cannot imagine it on a man. Not very unisex in mt opinion. Its almost like a Parisienne musty coconut with pee on it.
Not for me. Makes me sneeze and my eye water.
On me it maintained a more floral and light smell, while on my husband it smelled deeply of sandalwood and almost warm. Same scent, but certain notes are more drawn out depending on the wearer. I'm absolutely in love and want to try all of BDK now.
I really like it after the initial opening has died down a bit a the middle notes and dry down are really nice. It’s an easy reach and versatile but I don’t love it. It’s not one that I reach for me, it’s one I reach for others.
Did not like this scent at all. Wasn’t what I was expecting. Got it based off of the good reviews. Just not for me.
I get the hype! I really enjoy the perfume. It’s not overly complex, but beautiful and cozy to wear.
Very nice scent. Even better in cooler weather. Fig, tea, iris, sandalwood. Totally unisex. Good performance, not as nuclear as the extrait. Not as sweet as the extrait either which is fine. They are very similar but there are slight differences in the two.
Very lovely fig+tea+sandalwood fragrance. Perfect daytime fragrance for fall winter that still has some intrigue. Not sure it’s my holy grail fig but really nice.
A great scent that starts sweeter and ends a deep tea fragrance. Perfect for colder months.
Great fragrance for daytime.
It smells amazing! Definitely top 3 fragrances I’ve tried so far.
A perfect fall fragrance
This is a beautiful, warm, and sexy evening fragrance. It has great projection and longevity. I really like this house. I can't wait to try more fragrances from BDK.
This is a scent that I will definitely be purchasing. Scentbox helped me be able to sample it without having to blind buy. This is going to be my go to fall/winter scent.
I can’t stop smelling myself when I wear this. I love it. Perfect for the fall. The scent stays on clothing for a while.
Smells woody and is a light scent. It’s not a sweet scent which I do like. Unisex, maybe a bit more masculine side, but still unisex for sure. Doesn’t last as like as I would like. I use it after a shower before bedtime for a cozy scent.
Milky, spicy black tea with a hint of sweet fig. I’m a sucker for tea fragrances and this did not disappoint. I don’t love the BDK Gris Charnel Extrait so I was nervous to try this; I’m so happy I gave it a chance. It’s full bottle worthy.
It took me a long time to get this one because I thought Gris Charnel Extrait, which I already own, was going to be pretty much the same. If you love one or the other already, it isn’t necessarily to have both BUT Gris Charnel is much more woody and clean than Gris Charnel Extrait so they have their own personalities, for certain.
Love this fragrance, so cosy and addictive. I find it opens up quite heavy on the cardamom then the sweet fig starts to come through. Beautiful fragrance
So so beautiful. I think I’ve finally found what I like in a fragrance. Fig, tea and cardamom. It’s earthy and sexy. Mature but not matronly. Very similar to Indigo by Nest Fragrances. If you like this but want a cheaper alternative definitely smell that one. Easily found in Sephora. I do feel it sits closer to the skin so I doused myself with it today. I’d love to save it for a wedding I’m going to in August, but I might not be able to stop myself from using it. Probably the best fragrance I’ve blind ordered.
I like to layer this with a gourmand vanilla perfume to amp up the coziness factor.
This is a sexy, smoky scent. I can imagine this fragrance on a stereotypical French girl, with red lips and an elegant outfit ready for an evening in the city. I'm not sure if I love it on me but I will definitely try it again in the Fall/Winter when the season suits the fragrance.
Beautiful fragrance
Just beautiful, my new favourite.
Surprisingly, I really like this and it meshes well with my skin chemistry. I was nervous about the tea in this fragrance but it slightly reminds me of Lipton ice tea in a way but better blended. I find this unisex but more feminine leaning than the extrait version. Its really nice and I do recommend trying before buying.
Very nice... got tons of compliments.
It’s mostly just sandalwood
This is so different from I imagined. I was expecting a light, milky tea. This is an amber, rich, woody, spiced tea. It's very warm and cozy. I like it. I recognize it's nice. But until I can try it in the winter, I'm not sure if it's something I could love.
I'm so sad! I have been on the hunt for a perfect tea scent, this one is always recommended. The opening is pretty good but to be honest I feel like this leans much to masculine on me. After the initial tea note wears off, it smells really familiar like something we have all smelled before and I feel it is no longer unique. If the tea lasted longer, I would probably enjoy it more. It's not offensive, just too masculine on me, and I want some darn long lasting tea!!
I don't understand the love for this one. It smelled like my dad's garage to me. More for you guys! lol
A full-bottle worthy, excellent fragrance. The fig is smooth and sweet, very unisex and long-lasting, especially if you spray it on your shirt.
I enjoyed this at first spray, but after wearing a few times I found myself craving this fragrance. The opening is strong and spicy but the dry down is beautiful and comforting. Longevity is moderate for me when sprayed on skin, but lasts over 24h when sprayed on my clothes.
I sampled after hearing all the rave reviews however this fragrance is too overpowering and gives me a headache. I tried to love it by giving it several tries.
It’s a beautiful scent and on me has good longevity and projection. It is well blended and smells expensive. The sandalwood is smooth and creamy and the rinks gives it a nice sweetness and takes the masculine edge down a little. It reminds me a lot of 7 virtues Vanille Santal which I own a full bottle of and therefore I don’t need a full bottle of this. They are in the same scent family although Gris Charnel is more elevated. I still don’t feel the need to open both. However when I run out of Vanille Santal I might replace with this one.
Love at first sniff! It’s cozy and comforting like putting on your favorite hoodie and curling up with a cupa tea and good book by a fireplace on a snowy day. It’s a hug in a bottle but with a fresh twist & not heavy like some gourmands can be. The fig definitely stands out to me which I love. Similar to Indigo by Nest but with more depth. Full size worthy for sure.
I’ll be honest and say that this wasn’t love at first sniff. But once it dried down….baby!!! I could not stop smelling it. I’m so glad I gave this a chance. It’s cozy, woody, a little sweet, and a little spicy. It’s quite intriguing and I’m hooked.
Reading a book by the fire. So gorgeous.
Smells good and different that any designer fragrance.
I haven’t smelled anything this interesting in a long time. Definitely a great addition to anyones collection. However, I believe this to be purely a winter scent. If I wore it in the summer it would not have a pleasant silage. It would be too overpowering and spicy. But an absolute dream for cold weather.
Really smells unbelievable. Has characteristics of Le Male Le Parfum a bit but who cares. Stuff smells great. Perfect for date night.
I love this. It’s so we’ll blended that no one note is overpowering. A little spicy, a little warmth, a hint of sweetness, a little woody. Really nice. It’s not a huge projector and it won’t offend. Great everyday scent. I wish it was a little stronger but they have an extrait version too.
Absolutely loved this fragrance at first spray. It’s warm, inviting, cozy. Smells a little latonic, creamy, milky and slightly sweet with a cashmere, woody scent to it. I love this and will be buying a full bottle soon. I wore it to work and several co workers also liked it and said it was a soft warm scent.
All I could smell was apple pie applesauce and patchouli. Very disappointed in this. Probably the worst fragrance I have gotten from this subscription thus far.
Can be unisex, but leans more feminine a sweet fig and black tea scent. Projects about arms length for 3hrs then turns to skin scent for 4hrs.
At first, I didn't really know how I felt. But it was also very lovely. So, I decided to keep it. I think it would be perfect gym scent. It's very fresh and clean.
Masculine leaning so I gave it to my husband. It’s a nice fragrance, I just wouldn’t grab this for myself. But my husband was glad that he could share in this month’s fragrance.
Smells like cinnamon and spice
A bit too masculine and spiced for me. Didn’t hate it but wouldn’t purchase again
I wish it didn’t have this smokiness to it. I like the scent until that portion hits me. I really liked the other notes but that ruined it for me.
This is a gorgeous fragrance. It really does smell like a Chai latte. I really like this one. It isn't my favorite BDK fragrance but it is the one I get the most compliments on. I don't find this to be a sexy scent, but my boyfriend loves it.
Cool girl fragrance with great projection and longevity. I sprayed this on in the morning and received a compliment at lunch from a coworker that walked by me.
My favorite from this box. Is a very lovely fragrance, at the beginning I smell fig and cardamom the most, kinda spicy, after it settled is mostly sandal in a very harmonious way, great to wear something spicy and woody for dates or office. Beautiful for trying spicy or woody perfumes, unisex.
This one grew on me. The initial notes were strong (iris or cardamom?)and a little overwhelming at first. It’s almost like a punch in the face followed by a warm hug. However, it beautifully settled into a more balanced, green, woody, creamy fig. I find myself going back to sniff often as it leaves me longing for more.
Warm and sweet, cardamom and tonka provide a lovely warmth. Its my favourite to wear on a raining day. Modern and stylish.
I expected to be blown away by this fragrance based on multiple rave reviews, but it's just okay to me. I don't personally pick up on the chai tea smell it's said to have -- I get mostly fig and a tiny bit of cardamom spiciness, but I wish there was more. The black tea comes out a little more in the dry down. Overall, to my nose, this is more of a fig fragrance than a tea fragrance. It's also way sweeter than what I'd hoped for. I'll keep my scent box 8ml but I definitely won't be purchasing a full bottle. Still a pretty scent though, and not offensive!
I love this fragrance!!
This smells so good. I cant wait to buy a full bottle. Super unique scent. If you like woody masculine scents this is for you. Definitely still a unisex scent though.
I mostly get extreme sandalwood on my skin
Scent lasts all day. Good option for cold months, though my husband has been wearing it every day. Strong and first, it smooths out during the day.
I’m in love with this scent it is smoky and rich with a warm sweet dry down. It is creamy nutty beautiful fruity fig. It is definitely unisex I have gotten compliments every time I wear it and my husband loves it which he doesn’t love all of my fragrances. I need a full bottle.
Spicy and woody, dark and warm, perfect for autumn and winter
If I am reviewing off the scent alone, I would give Gris Charnel 5*. It is a fragrance quite like no other. There is a spicyness to it along with a sweetness - the perfect balance. It has a more darker, mysterious scent which would be perfect for the fall/winter months. Whilst I will thoroughly enjoy my travel size, I cannot justify a full bottle, purely due to the longevity of the perfume. Upon first scent, I was expecting a full bodied scent that would last at least 8-10 hours. Unfortunately, I find myself having to reapply after only a few hours. If you can see past the longevity, then Gris Charnel is definitely worth pursuing.
The only perfume I have ever exchanged. There was something that was just too sharp in the opening and when it dried down, I didn't find it to be anything special.
Spicy and woody. interesting and complex. Unisex
I get the cardamom and iris in the opening. Oddly enough it reminded me of Jazz Club by Maison Margela. When it dries down, I get the fig and a tiny bit of coconut. It is really pleasant. It doesn't last very long. Maybe I'll give it few more sprays the next to try to increase the longevity. Perfect for fall or even summer. Unisex
I think this is a interesting floral , spicy scent . Right off smelling the iris and cardamom. It didn’t last very long on me but , it’s a scent I don’t have in my collection. I will not purchase the larger bottle. For the reason of longevity.
