I do like it but it’s just ok. I do not smell coffee at all. The Vanilla and patchouli is what I mainly smell. It is a unique, bold, intense smell, but does not last long enough. I typically like more of a fruitier, sweeter scent. Not disappointed because I love experimenting with scents I don’t normally go for, but this is my least favorite so far.

MY FAVORITE. A Warm, sexy, musky, evening scent with immaculate longevity. I can smell it in my hair and on my clothing the next day. I get complimented more wearing this scent that any other and if a stranger at the grocery store smells it AND stops me, the scents a winner. It's definitely a mature scent so if you don't like warm, ambery, musky, "old lady" (I hate that word to describe layered and complex scents) - this one may not be for you. I wouldn't call it powdery by any means, but striking and complex. This is the kind of spray that you put on after you've lit candles and crawled into bed in lingerie after a fresh shower - the satin sheets against your skin - intimacy in the air.

This is with my top three favorites I normally don't choose this kind of perfume. I love the way this smells on me and it lasts a long time. I like mixing this with Tom Ford's black orchard I usually spray the Tom Ford first wait about 5 minutes because I don't like the way it smells when I first put it on and then I spray the black opium and together for me it's just amazing. This one I definitely wear mostly in the evening especially if I'm going out but I sometimes wear it during the day too. I'll be ordering this one again.

I don’t get a whole lot of coffee, oddly enough. Only slight. I smell mostly orange blossom, jasmine and patchouli. But it is still sweet and warm, not offensive. The vanilla plays through on the dry down as well as the cedar. I don’t feel like it lasts long but it is still a nice, classic scent.

I actually LOVE how this one smells! The scent has nice vanilla notes and I feel sexy wearing it. But my body didn’t love it. I put it on my wrists and got a rash, and I know perfume reacts differently on differently people, so for me, the scent didn’t last. I really like Black Opium and was so anxious to get it. It smells great. But it doesn't have much hang time. I was disappointed that you couldn't smell it 30 mins later. This was one of the first perfumes I tested in person at the department store and I fell in love with it immediately. However, once wearing the scent, while it smells incredible, the longevity and sillage is horrible. This lasted on me maybe 2 hours tops and after an hour I think it turned into a skin scent that I could not smell anymore. Nobody next to me could even smell it. I really want to love this perfume, but I do not want to have to respray every 2 hours, especially at the price point for this fragrance.

I thought I would love this, as I like gourmand, musky scents, but the initial notes are underwhelming for me. At first I am reminded of a victoria's secret body spray. I'm not lowering the rating too much, because the dry down on me is much nicer than the first spray, sweet but musky, a better balance. Of all the fragrances I've tried, I am easily the most torn on this purchase decision! I LOVE the coffee (and the vanilla), etc. - OMG, sooo scrumptious. And strangely, for someone who skin tends to just gobble up fragrance, this scent lasts forever on my skin. So, those are all plusses, right? However, I'm just having a hard time adjusting to that spicy pink pepper upon first spraying. (I literally feel like I've been hit with a blast of pepper spray, lol - and it takes a bit too long for my taste for that spiciness to settle down). So, I put my tester away - will retry Black Opium in the colder months of winter - it deserves that 2nd chance, because it's otherwise gorgeous. (In hindsight, I should have arranged my list of choices to arrive in their approp. seasons - my bad). In the meantime, I've ordered 2 other scents with dominant coffee notes for a little comparing & contrasting to Black Opium. The struggle is real, people! First world problems. :-)

I wanted to like this perfume so bad after all the hype on social media and reading many other reviews, but it just isn't for me. The notes of coffee, vanilla, and jasmine are present, however, for me I think the combination of floral and coffee makes my nose burn. The scent is strong until it dries down, then it softens and gets a bit sweeter. The longevity isn't quite long enough only lasting 1-2 hours while the sillage is very close to the skin. It does smell complex and expensive. Overall, not a bad scent but not something I would wear or buy.

The coffee is like a rich, sweet, vanilla coffee- great if you love a gourmand scent, but WAY too overpowering and mawkish for me. I've tried this twice since recieving and while the scent is nearly exactly what I'm looking for, the longevity was poor on both occasions. Less than an hour and I couldn't even smell it if I stuck my wrist directly to my nose.

Oh, I love this one. I was expecting an intense oriental, but it definitely leans more gourmand. It’s warm and smooth - not overpowering or sickeningly sweet, and it just feels cozy and comfortable to me.

I was so excited to try this fragrance as I have been on a gourmand fragrance kick and everyone seems to love this classic scent. I think it is safe to say that this scent was definitely not for me - the second I sprayed it the smell made me almost sick to my stomach. It has a really nice sweetness, but then there is this awful acrid smell that lies underneath. It reminds me of spraying a cheap air freshener over a bad smelling room - there's this pleasant top layer that just can't quite hide the disgusting smell underneath. It is almost like burnt, stale coffee mixed in with something kind of woodsy and masculine trapped under that original sweet layer. I do know a lot of people really enjoy this fragrance, so it is probably just my personal taste that does not align. When I showed it to my mom (a lover of warm, spicy oriental fragrances) she liked it well enough and has taken the burden of wearing this fragrance from me. Overall, I thought this scent had good staying power - I sprayed it on in the late afternoon and could still smell a faint trace of it the next morning. It is an incredibly strong fragrance and for me it was kind of headache inducing, and as mentioned earlier, made me feel sick to my stomach so this might not be a good one for those sensitive to smell. Overall, I am glad I was able to try this fragrance so I could see what all the "fuss" was about, but I now know for a fact that it is not for me. This is one I would definitely recommend you try before you buy.

Pure poison has been my favorite scent for a while now, and this one might steal that spot. It’s very strong on me initially, but it dries down beautifully. Vanilla, a bit of coffee and a slight floral scent as well. There’s an understated and graceful seductiveness about it.

I LOVE this fragrance. This is my first time with a perfume subscription and I loved this. It was a fragrance perfect for me! This is a warm and cozy fragrance. Not really A romantic fragrance in my opinion. Spicy Maybe a bit of citrus Maybe a bit vanilla. I am not reading the notes just trying to pic up my own from smelling it on me. I have our this on at bed time just two sprays and rub it in everywhere and I could still smell it the next morning. I asked to get some for Christmas. I did get the subscription with two fragrance Ces a month and actually combined this with the juicy couture at majestic ones and they paired well together. This is a winner!

Other reviews refer to the scent as boring or generic and I'd have to agree with that. I don't get coffee at all. To me, the initial smell of pepper is very strong, but gone almost instantly. After that it smells just plain sweet without any other unique characteristics.

This is well known as a coffee scent, but I get very little coffee or pink pepper. There's just a bit of bite from the licorice, keeping it from being too cloyingly sweet. The orange blossom and vanilla are most prominent, with a soft musky dry down. It's no wonder this is considered an addictive, sexy fragrance since most men I know love vanilla. The sillage is good but it lacks longevity, so it gets 4 stars instead of 5.

I’m not a fan of the opening of the scent. It smells like bread, musk, and subtle vanilla. I like the dry down more it has a smooth vanilla scent. I gave it two stars because it doesn’t last long. This is more of a skin scent. No one will notice the smell on you. You would have to glue your wrist to your nose to smell this.

Love this—it smells like an expensive, high quality coffee liqueur and gorgeous white flowers, which combine better than it sounds like they would. I actually mainly joined scent box to try this scent. I've read so many things about how wonderful it is. I am a huge vanilla and gourmand fan. This scent is incredible. It starts off feeling a bit musky and super strong but over time it fades to the perfect balance of scent. It smells sophisticated, delicious, decedent, and sultry. Well this one is not for me. It's a best seller and people love it so I thought I'd give it a try but I don't care for it at all. I hate the smell of coffee but I thought I would try it because that is a note in the floral shock version and I do like that one. For black opium all I smell is coffee when you first spray it down. It lasts a long time and has good sillage and a little goes a long way. And once it dries down it's tolerable even slightly pleasant for me but it's still not the way I like to smell. I will still use the rest of my sample sparingly but I won't even consider getting the full size version. At the same time I can see a lot of people liking this fragrance it's just not my cup of tea.

I have mixed emotions about this perfume. While I do like it, there's something in it that's missing for me. Maybe it's more vanilla or a little more sweetness that I would like in this scent? Don't get me wrong, it's a fantastic perfume and one thing I love about all the black opium varieties is that they are not overwhelming to the nose at all at first spray which happens to me with a lot of other perfumes. The wear time isn't great, but I still love the scent line and will continue to purchase. I definitely like this fragrance, but I wouldn't have it as my signature scent or anything. I saw a youtuber recommend that you spray perfume in your hair to make it last longer and so far it has worked really well for me on the black opiums so they don't fade as quickly!

This goes on strong and, in my opinion, is a bit overwhelming at first. I'm going to be honest here - it reminded me of visiting a department store beauty counter with my grandma as a kid in the 90's. That wasn't the scent I was going for. It's hard to pick out any opening notes because it is just so powerful. It's nice as it settles onto my skin. The pear and coffee notes stand out to me which is kind of cool - the coffee really brings depth to the sweet notes. With all of this said, it is far too mature for me and I am 32. I could see how some women could pull this off and have it read as sophisticated and sexy versus old lady. I am not one of those women. This is a great scentbox choice though so you can decide if you love it or hate it.

This original Black Opium is waaayyy better than the flower shock or any other variant of its kind. Absoutely beautiful coffee perfume invented by the famous Oliver Cresp. Do not make the mistake of thinking that this perfume is a derivative of Opium. This perfume has wonderful gourmand, oriental notes that last all day. If you love this perfume, I HIGHLY recommend the very posh perfume, Wake from Akro. It is also made from master perfumier Oliver Cresp with strong notes of coffee and cardamom.

I really love this perfume! I’ll admit I ordered this because I’ve been hearing the name everywhere amongst women my age ( early 30s ) so I decided to try it and I love it ! I suck at picking out the notes of a scent, so it’s also difficult for me to know if I’ll like something based on the notes, and I’ll admit that seeing coffee was a note in this scent kind of threw me off and I wasn’t sure what to expect but I was certainly pleasantly surprised and impressed with this perfume! This is my absolute favorite fragrance EVER & the ONLY sub service I could find it on was here on ScentBox! From the moment I smelled it, months ago when I received a small sample vial to review, I fell in love with it immediately! It feels both grown up but youthful at the same time! The notes of coffee & white flowers caught my attention quickly & while it doesn't last all day, the bottom notes seem to stay a bit longer & linger around me as I can still smell them hours later! Black Opium is warm, sweet, sexy vanilla latte. It's a bit sweeter than I tend to prefer, but I still love it. To me, the coffee comes out most prominently late into the drydown - like, 3-4 hours in. I wish it had a bit more throw and would last a bit longer. Usually, vanilla scents last quite well on me, but Black Opium is mostly gone by the 5 hour mark. I also wish the vanilla were a bit warmer -- less cupcake vanilla syrup and more vanilla bourbon with a bite. Still, it's a really yummy scent, and one I'm glad to have.

I do love this fragrance, but I tried some in the store today and although I still like it, decided on La Vie Est Belle instead. The top notes at first spray are incredible - seductive, dark, mysterious. But the drydown has a sharp, acidicity to it that I don't like. It smells much different after about an hour. Still a good fragrance, but not my favorite.
